This document discusses the need for transparency in life cycle assessment (LCA) data. It notes that current LCA datasets for polylactide (PLA) plastic are not fully transparent, modular or disaggregated, making it difficult to identify process impacts, compare modification scenarios, or ensure data quality and compatibility. The document argues transparency should be better defined and required in LCA standards and practices to improve reliability, compatibility of datasets, and informed decision-making. More transparency could benefit all LCA stakeholders by reducing risks and increasing trust in results.
