1. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
I have learnt that technologies have become more advanced and the use of social
networking sites and technology in general has excelled to benefit all aspects of
computer users, these technological issues vary from user experiences some far
more easier to navigate round than others. I have learnt some valuable skills on
different software types, before the editing of our opening scene to a thriller I wasn’t
able to edit videos or add sounds but as we progressed through the video I began to
pick up aspects slowly, with a bit of practice which enabled me to apply the skills I
had learnt giving me a better overview of how to use it.
At first when I began using Macintosh and the many different systems
software on the iMac, I was new to it, all which had made things a little
complicated due to its various functionalities. At first I had trouble finding
the right software and being able to insert images and find the correct
location to store, or even where I had stored my files. Once I had been on the
Macintosh a few times the aspects began to get easy and wasn’t as
complicated.
Due to me not having a steady hand I had manipulated the functions of the
tripod which we were given to produce our opening thriller, to help me keep
the frame steady and use features like zooming and contrast on the camera
so it wasn’t too bright or too dark but in other words just right for the
location,
I had learnt more about technologies and how to manipulate the features of
these softwares, such as being able to add effects (contrast change, clip
speed, brightness), being able to insert a soundtrack from Garagebangetc… I
had also learnt how to create sounds on Garageband, edit videos and make it
look more professional which had massively improved production and the
quality of production.
In garageband I had learnt how to sample sounds, converge and make them
into a new soundtrack but with existing sounds and music. I learnt how to
keep it smooth, but with my own general knowledge I had thought that any
jerks in the sound would make it dramatically unprofessional so I was able to
test the soundtrack by playing it over.
I have learnt how to blog more efficiently, as I am new to blogging I used
wordpress to help me create a more professional look and using this helped
me learn more about its features.
Technologies differ from operating systems, an example that I came across during
my production was that a Mac operating system would include software which

2. wouldn’t be available on Windows, which was a drawback but then Mac would be a
lot easier to use as the instructions were concise, creating easier navigation, this
allowed me to manipulate features accordingly. Although I am an ICT student, a few
features on the mac were relatively difficult to understand to begin with, just by
playing around with its features allowed me to gain an understanding of the
software.
Alongside with the difficulty approaching new software and overcoming the
objectives of the task, the use of cameras wasn’t much of an issue due to the
previous use of cameras in tasks such as the continuity task. The tripod had made
the task easier as it didn’t require a steady hand, the pivot tool allowed a smooth
transition. This had made a massive improvement in the quality of the video, before
we had been given the tripod my camera skills were weak, as in I couldn’t create a
smooth shot as the clip after I recorded it would look edgy because of the
movements that were made as a result of me not having a steady hand. We were
able to manipulate the tripod effectively by changing the height and the degree at
which the camera was at. This technique was very effective as it created a more
professional effect to the video, and reduced the amateur look to it.
When creating the video we used garage band to help us create sounds that would
add to the enigma of the clip, and help the flow of the Thriller, copying original
thrillers by using sounds that would be a typical convention of the genre.
Garageband enabled us to converge sounds together, by adding different sorts of
instruments. It was relatively easy to use the functions of Garageband I could
manipulate the functions effectively as they were on screen and precise, helping me
create sounds, as all I had to do was add sounds on to the different layers that made
the songs play over one another creating an end instrumental, the benefits were that
it wasn’t copyrighted therefore much hassle wasn’t created. The instruments that
you may require are all in specific categories, so navigation becomes easy.
Overall the use of technologies in the construction of our Thriller openingbenefitted
us throughout the making of it as we were able to enhance the quality and the
overall look of the video due to the help of technologies. By adding sounds, adding
transitions and editing clips to create a perfect opening helped us achieve our goal.
Technologies were strange to being with as they were completely new to us and we
had no experience in doing so, by learning of my partner Joe and by trying to learn it
myself by playing around with the functions helped me get a better feel of the
technologies.

3. Overall the use of iMovie benefits a user with
minimum skill level, it requires a few test runs and
drafts just so you can become familiar with the
aspects. In my opinion it was tough at first to grasp
but eventually I began to come to terms with how to
change clips and edit transitions, this had become a
lot easier when I had practiced on the system. The
features such as the viewer when you highlight a clip
before you wish to insert, is that the clip is then
played in the viewer so you can see if it is the correct
