  2. 2. CHAPTER 10 Several years pass • Muriel, Bluebell, Jessie, Pincher – DEAD • Snowball and Jones – FORGOTTEN
  3. 3. • Clover – old, past retiring age, has rheumy eyes • Napoleon – mature boar • Squealer – very fat • Benjamin – much the same
  4. 4. • More animals are born. • Three more horses • Farm – organized, prosperous, enlarged by two fields • Windmill – completed but used for milling corn
  5. 5. • New machines – threshing machine, hay elevator • Animals worked hard and were generally hungry (as usual). • Squealer trains the sheep in private. • Napoleon walks on his hind legs
  6. 6. • “Four legs good, two legs better” – Sheep • Clover asks Benjamin to read out the Seven Commandments but only one remains now: ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS. • Pigs carry whips in their trotters.
  7. 7. • One week later, neighbouring farmers are invited to inspect the farm. • Express admiration for the farm • Pigs and the men play a game of cards and drink a toast to Animal Farm. • Mr. Pilkington’s speech
  8. 8. • Napoleon’s Speech: • Custom of calling each other ‘COMRADE’ abolished • Custom of marching past Old Major’s skull abolished • Flag changed • “Animal Farm” becomes “Manor Farm”
  9. 9. • Game of cards continues • An uproar of voices is heard • Napoleon and Pilkington had each played an ace of spades simultaneously • No distinction between pigs and humans
