Tree of Virtue - A Poem By Chew Wei Heng
1. Gone were the days,
When children crooned with joy under the shades.
Here comes the age,
With the danger of roaring chainsaws lurking behind the shades.
Through the years,
There He would be,
Standing as a warrior,
Tall as cliff,
Still as statue,
Unmoved by the winds of the world.
Malabar squirrel praises Him for the fruit,
Dr. Woodpecker blames Him for the worm,
There He would be,
Standing as a warrior,
Tall as cliff,
Still as statue,
Till the breeze of voices fades away.
Rays of pleasure He feels,
Torrent of sorrow He bears,
There He would be,
Standing as a warrior,
Tall as cliff,
Still as statue,
Knowing that everything would pass.
One autumn day when His hair turned red,
With greed a young lass came,
Chainsaw Devil on her gripping hand,
Money God in her wicked brain,
Buzz!Buzz!Buzz!
Oh! Beware!
Oh! Beware!
Famed hero He was,
Disregarded unknown He is,
Yet proudly He murmurs,
With the voice of wisdom,
"With money on your right hand,
The bliss of content might have slipped from your left."
