  4. 4. Office of Civic Engagement (OCE) "Connecting with communities, connecting with ourselves."
  5. 5. Mission Statement The Office of Civic Engagement aims to empower students to be active leaders in their communities, promote critical thinking about social justice issues, and develop citizens committed to a lifetime of public service. The Office of Civic Engagement accomplishes this by providing students with opportunities to engage in curricular and co-curricular service that build sustainable, positive relationships with community partners while reflecting on the social justice issues that affect communities on a local, national and global level.
  6. 6. Formation of OCE • Serves entire campus • 4 program areas • 3 positions – Director of Experiential Education and Service Learning – Civic Engagement Coordinator – Nonprofit Capacity Building Coordinator

Civic Engagement Coordinator • Connecting students to service and service-learning opportunities • Coordinating Hunger and Homelessness Week • Advising student service organizations • Coordinating Make a Difference Day and Community Service Day • Forming Office of Civic Engagement Service Advisory Council (OCESAC) • Developing sustainable partnerships with community organizations
  8. 8. Nonprofit Capacity Building Coordinator How did this position come to be? Cause: In 2009, the McDonough Center for Leadership and Business at Marietta College completed an in-depth study about nonprofit capacity building in the Mid-Ohio Valley. Effect: Through a grant from the Sisters of St. Joseph Charitable Fund, I was hired to coordinate the implementations of the study’s recommendations.

What is Nonprofit Capacity Building? “The primary intent of organizational capacity is to enhance an organization’s ability to achieve its social mission.” (Kibbe, 2004, p.7)  Networking and Advocacy  Financial Resources  Operations and Governance  Human Resources  Marketing  Information Technology  Programs and Planning
