Ubiquitous Computing <ul><li>Ubicomp seeks to separate the user from the desktop for quotidian tasks </li></ul><ul><li>An intelligent home or working environment can transparently save endless man hours for menial tasks and provide more productivity </li></ul><ul><li>Ambient Intelligence devices are proliferating and the increased presence of wireless networks allows these apparatuses to flourish. </li></ul>

The Downside <ul><li>Deployment of a full scale Sensor Network is very expensive </li></ul><ul><li>No guarantee that all devices will work to maximum potential or in sync with one another in the environment where they are installed </li></ul><ul><li>Testing and configuration can take a very long time. </li></ul>

One Possible Solution <ul><li>Create and deploy sensors in a virtual environment </li></ul><ul><li>Allow user to navigate through a familiar landscape </li></ul><ul><li>Perform regular tasks and gather necessary information </li></ul><ul><li>Deploy Sensors in a real environment using the gathered dataset </li></ul><ul><li>If data collected is accurate, the sensor network should perform consistently </li></ul>

Approach <ul><li>Modify Half-life 2 </li></ul><ul><li>Create custom maps e.g. UCD CASL 3 rd floor </li></ul><ul><li>Create and deploy virtual sensors to gather information. </li></ul><ul><li>Analyze Hotspots of user activity </li></ul><ul><li>Configure components to leave no space “off radar” </li></ul><ul><li>Install real-world sensors. </li></ul>
