  1. 1. Light Drawing A Basic How To Guide
  2. 2. What it is <ul><li>A light drawing is a photograph that captures the movement of light in a picture. </li></ul><ul><li>One can manipulate a light source in front of a camera and create a drawing. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Step One. <ul><li>You will need: </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>A tripod </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>A camera </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>A portable hand held light source </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>And a dark area </li></ul></ul></ul>
  4. 4. Step two. <ul><li>Set up the camera on the tripod adjust the exposure to a long shutter speed preferably longer than 5 seconds (you need time to draw) </li></ul>
  5. 5. Step Three. <ul><li>Exposing: </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>While the photo is being taken, take out your light source and point it towards the camera, walk around with it and makes sure the light is moving. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><li>Once the photo is done go take a look at it. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Step four. <ul><li>What do you notice? </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>You should see glowing beams that follow the path you drew. </li></ul></ul></ul>

Step five. <ul><li>Try it again </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>except this time try writing your name. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>What happened? </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>your name is backwards right? keep this in mind when tackling more complex designs. </li></ul></ul></ul></ul>

Step six. <ul><li>Drawing: </li></ul><ul><li>Find a chair and try to draw a stick man sitting in the chair </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>(While drawing make sure that the light is pointing towards the camera.) </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>When you need to start a new line turn the light off then turn it back on in the new position (or else your entire drawing will be one big line) </li></ul></ul></ul>
  9. 9. Step seven. <ul><li>Try doing this technique in different locations and make your drawings interact with their surroundings. </li></ul>
  10. 10. Step eight. <ul><li>And now that you know the basics, enjoy your new light drawings. </li></ul>
