One reason many European countriescolonized other lands and people isbecause many European countries wererunning out of natural resources.
In Europe by the 1500s and on, there was muchdeforestation and poverty, and the populationwas becoming too great for the land andgovernment to handle.
By colonizing the Americans, for example, English,French, portuguese, and Spanish colonists wereable to have new lands and opportunities, but in theprocess millions of Native Americans were killed, enslaved, intermarried, or forced to leave their land.
Indeed, the European colonization of theAmericans was perhaps the bloodiest and mosthorrific time in human history.
Besides the genocide of Native Americans,European colonists brought Africans slaves to theAmericas to work, especially after finding out thatNative Americans would just die in slavery.
Image this: men, who youve never seen before, come to your house and your neighbors house andthey all have weapons as they can carry.
Then they start killing orenslaving you, your family, andyour neighbors.
And you and your family and your neighbors fightback but are crushed by the mens superiorweapons.
And soon, you and most of your family and yourneighbors are gone--killed, enslaved, intermarried, or forced to live somewhere else
This is what colonialism is : it is death, it isslavery; it is the end of one group and theexpansion of another group.
