  4. 4. OBJECTIVES: • To know whether or not the fact that obesity could really be a potential risk of health amongst Bruneian. • To know the public’s general view towards obesity. • To know their (public) physical activity & eating habits.
  5. 5. WHAT IS OBESITY? Is a medical condition; which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health. leading to reduced life expectancy and/or increased health problems. caused by a combination of excessive daily calories.
  6. 6. CAUSES: Inactive lifestyle • Lack of physical activity. Environment • Doesn’t support a healthy eating habit or lifestyle. Genes & family history • Strong influence on a person weight. Smoking • Some gain weight when quitting. Emotional factors • Some people eat more than usual when they’re bored, angry or stressed. Medications • Can cause weight gain (e.g) antidepressant, seizure medicine & corticosteroids.
  7. 7. EFFECTS: Cancer High blood pressure Heart disease Diabetes DEATH & SHORT LIFE EXPECTANCY!
  8. 8. • Body Mass Index • Is a measurement which compares weight and height. • Helps to indicate individuals in which category their in. Weight (kilogram ) ÷ Height (centimeter)
  9. 9. TYPES OF BMI Underweight > 18.5 Normal weight 18.6 – 24.9 Overweight 25 – 29.9 Obesity 30 <
  10. 10. SOLUTIONS: Control consumption of food (dieting) •Amount & type of food. Active in physical activities(exercise) •at least 30 – 45 min per day. •Outdoor activities (e.g) sports. Medicine(surgery/pills) •Liposuction BUT strongly discourage. •Pill; losing weight in an unhealthy way. Weight loss program(self discipline) •Obese people usually lacks of initiative, motivation but full of laziness. It is best for them to get a personal trainer to motivate & supervise them.
