Setting Up an Art Professional Learning Community

A professional learning community is a team of teachers based on the idea that all students can achieve success through teacher collaboration on best practices, frequent assessment of learning objectives, evaluation of areas of student strength and weakness, and targeting ways to meet the needs of students. <br />
  3. 3. A PLC represents a shift from a focus on teaching to a focus on learning. <br />
  4. 4. In Denton, grade level or vertical teams meet together once a week for 45 minutes. Elementary art teachers meet once a semester for an entire day and are on PLC teams in their schools.<br />
  5. 5. Roles (change with each meeting): scribe (takes notes), timekeeper, facilitator, processes observer <br />
  6. 6. Start and end on time.<br /> Listen to different views before <br /> responding.<br /> Turn off cell phones.<br /> Respect others.<br />Participate. <br />Set <br />Norms<br />
  7. 7. Critical Questions:<br />What do we want our students to learn?<br />How will we know if our students are learning?<br />How will we respond when students don’t learn?<br />
