  1. 2. <ul><li>. Defenition of Sequent Tenses </li></ul><ul><li>Sequent Tense is the arrangement of tenses in a sentence according to the situation of time when the happening occurs. Consequently, it focuses to the specific writing especially writing focus. </li></ul><ul><li>When two clauses make up a sentence, they show a time relationship based on certain time words and verb tenses. This relationship is called sequence tenses. The verb tenses of the main will determine that of the dependent clause. The following below appears the some rules of sequence tenses: </li></ul>
  2. 3. <ul><li>The characteristics of sequence tense </li></ul><ul><li>If the main clause is present tense, then the dependent clause will be: </li></ul><ul><li>Present progressive </li></ul><ul><li>Will,can,or may + verb </li></ul><ul><li>Past tense </li></ul><ul><li>Present perfect </li></ul><ul><li>Present future </li></ul>
  3. 4. <ul><li>For examples: </li></ul><ul><li>I see that Samuel is writing her compotition. </li></ul><ul><li>Do you know who is riding the bicycle? </li></ul><ul><li>He says that he will look a job next week </li></ul><ul><li>I know that she is going to win that prize. </li></ul><ul><li>Mary says that she can play the piano. </li></ul>
  4. 5. <ul><li>If the main clause is past tense, then the dependent clause will be: </li></ul><ul><li>Past progressive or simple past </li></ul><ul><li>Would, could, might + verb </li></ul><ul><li>Past perfect </li></ul><ul><li>Present tense. </li></ul>
