What we Know so far <ul><li>The percentage of babies born in 2004 at Central Coast public hospitals to mothers under the age of 20 was 6.3% [1] . </li></ul><ul><li>This compares with a state wide figure of 4.0% [2] . </li></ul><ul><li>[1] Central Coast Health Obstetric Database 2004 </li></ul><ul><li>[2] NSW Mothers and Babies 2004 Report, p 19 </li></ul>
  17. 29. What we Know so far <ul><li>The Babes response: </li></ul><ul><li>“ I love this class. I’ve met heaps of girlz all really nice and fun to be with…If I wasn’t here I’d just be living day to day” </li></ul>

What we Know so far <ul><li>“ I fell pregnant when I was 18 and I was at Tafe doing my HSC but I had to leave because it was getting too hard traveling and very uncomfortable sitting in a chair for so long being that pregnant. I really wanted to get my HSC so I really like this program ’ </li></ul>
  19. 33. What we Know so far <ul><li>“ I love coming here because I know that my baby is looked after, and I can sit down and do my work.” </li></ul>
  20. 35. What we Know so far <ul><li>“… And if I ever feel down or need help with anything they always offer to help me or talk to me.” </li></ul>
  21. 37. What we Know so far <ul><li>“ It’s important that I come here because I want my children to know that you can be young, single and still do what you want to with a little help from people that are interested… Also don’t want to be branded a derro mum”. </li></ul>
