Releasing God's Power Thru Prayer With Fasting

  1. 1. MARK 2:18-20, MATTHEW 17:1-21
  2. 2.  A discussion on prayer would not be complete without including a subject that is important companion to prayer in the Bible which is FASTING.  JONH WESLEY who have done mighty things for the Lord testified the necessity of prayer and fasting.
  3. 3. FASTING- a voluntary withdrawing from food with or without drink, or other fleshly appetite for a specified period of time.
  4. 4. A way to seek God by denying the physical in order to focus on the spiritual.
  5. 5. o Mark 2:20 …but the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them and then they will fast in those days. o Jesus knew there would come a time when He would not be physically present any longer with His disciple. o To see prayer and fasting powerful lets look MATTHEW 17: 1-21
  6. 6. 1. Unmet Need - v.16  Jesus’ disciples could not met the need of a man.  Jesus is the master of unmet need… nothing is too hard for Him, touching the young man and was delivered.
  7. 7. 2. An Unanswered Question > v.19 why could we not cast out this ?
  8. 8. 3.An unexpected reply > v. 20-21 “ this kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting” The way to obtain spiritual power to breakthrough such needs is…
  10. 10. Why does God move in answer to prayer? Why does He require us to pray? > Prayer is the simplest form of speech that infant lips can try, it’s a noble task that reach the majesty on high. Why fasting is so productive in releasing spiritual power?
  11. 11.  “God’s cause is committed to men, God committed Himself to men. Praying men are the vice regents of God, they do His works and carry out His plans”. E.M. BOUNDS
  12. 12. 1. Fasting reminds us of our humanity. 2.Fasting is a primary means of humbling oneself before God. Ps 35:13,Ps 69:10,Ps 58:5 >Humility is an attitude of the heart. Ps 51:17
  13. 13. 3. Fasting is also a primary means of restoration. -by humbling our souls, fasting releases the Holy Spirit to do His special work of revival in us. 4. Fasting is a sign of our desire to seek God.
  14. 14. 1. Fasting must not be as the hypocrites. Matt.6:16 2. Fasting should be in secret. Matt.6:18 3. Fasting in the Bible is always coupled with fervent prayer. 2 Chro. 20, Jonas 3
  15. 15. We may still to go through the difficult circumstances-but the more we are willing to fast and pray, the more we will be rewarded with the power and presence of God to strengthen us and give us faith for the journey.
