  1. 1. QUANTIFIERS ALL, EVERY, NO, NONE, ANY
  2. 2. ALL • All + plural countable nouns (“all animals”) • All + uncountable nouns (“all fruit”) – All + noun = general: All flowers are beautiful – All (of) the + noun = specific: All of the flowers in this garden are beautiful • All of + object pronoun (“all of them”) • All + subject pronoun (“all she says is the same”) • All + time expressions – “All day” – “All the day”
  3. 3. ALL without a noun ALL without a noun everybody / everything + singular verb • All enjoyed the party • All of them enjoyed the party • Everybody enjoyed the party
  4. 4. ALL position in the sentence • Before the noun: All animals looked sad • Between the noun and the main verb: The animals all looked sad • After the verb to be: The animals are all sad

EVERY • Every + singular countable noun: Every seat was taken • Everything / everybody / everyone / everywhere + singular verb: Everybody was in the meeting • Every + time expressions = how often sth happens You’re wearing a different outfit every day All day (from morning to night) Every day (Monday, Tuesday…)
  6. 6. NO • No + noun + positive verb = zero quantity There were no shops open No reason was given for the change of plans • Nothing / nobody / no-one / nowhere + singular verb: Nobody is perfect

ANY • Any + noun + negative verb = zero quantity There weren’t any shops open • Any of + noun / pronoun + negative verb = zero quantity I didn’t buy any of these books I didn’t buy any of them • Any (without a noun) / anything / anyone / anybody / anywhere + negative verb = zero quantity Did you have some milk? There wasn’t any There wasn’t anything in the fridge
