  3. 3. A Vision for CPD at Welling School Sustained school improvement is most likely when CPD processes sit at the very heart of school life. In order for Welling School to move from satisfactory to good, and good to outstanding, we need to build capacity for improvement by creating an ethos, culture and set of expectations within which people can flourish and be empowered to drive change by contributing to the professional development of colleagues . In doing so, we will create a professional learning culture and community led by everyone taking ownership and responsibility for training and sharing their expertise and best practice. How can I enthuse and empower other colleagues?

Developments (1) <ul><li>In the next round of PMR’s in the Autumn Term, staff will be required to </li></ul><ul><li>identify two targets that are CPD related: </li></ul><ul><li>A personal CPD target </li></ul><ul><li>A ‘Professional Learning Community’ target linked to the Professional Standards framework which requires teachers to ‘work collaboratively’ , ‘to share best practice’ , ‘to promote collaboration’ and to ‘contribute to the professional development of colleagues through coaching and mentoring demonstrating effective practice and providing feedback’ . </li></ul><ul><li>This information will collated on a central database and staff will be asked </li></ul><ul><li>to evidence their contribution to the professional development of others. </li></ul><ul><li>All staff will be encouraged to keep either an e-portfolio or a paper based </li></ul><ul><li>portfolio with evidence of working towards or meeting these targets. </li></ul><ul><li>This can be shared with your reviewer at your PMR meeting and support </li></ul><ul><li>you through career progression particularly at Threshold, AST etc. </li></ul>

Developments (2) <ul><li>Post-it is a brand new initiative using New Media technology and your skills, </li></ul><ul><li>best practice and ideas to build a virtual professional Learning community. </li></ul><ul><li>The ambition is that all staff in their various teams (administrative, teaching, </li></ul><ul><li>middle-managers, ALT, pastoral, support staff etc.) contribute to this online </li></ul><ul><li>Blogging platform in order to: </li></ul><ul><li>Support ALL staff in realising their continuing professional development ambitions </li></ul><ul><li>through a culture of sharing, modelling and professional learning through action </li></ul><ul><li>research & dialogue.This is turn will inevitably: </li></ul><ul><li>help raise standards at Welling School in order to move us from satisfactory </li></ul><ul><li>to good, and good to OUTSTANDING! </li></ul>
  6. 6. <ul><li>What is a ‘Post-it’ and how can I contribute? </li></ul><ul><li>Post-it is an online journal and a virtual space to engage in discussions and professional conversations about learning and teaching and other issues at the heart of our school community. </li></ul><ul><li>Post-it is also a place to share resources in the form of - LINKS, VIDEOS, POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS and DOCUMENTS. </li></ul><ul><li>Post-it can connect us and allow us to access and showcase best practice and document the ‘Best of Welling’ leading us to be more joined-up in the way we work. </li></ul><ul><li>Post -it can represent every faculty, team and individual at Welling School giving everyone a voice and space to learn from and contribute to a dynamic professional learning community. </li></ul>How can I energise others in my area or elsewhere in Welling School?
  7. 7. Today… <ul><li>You are going to break into your faculty/department teams to explore ways in which you could contribute to Post-it. The ambition is for each team to create a ‘subject’ area to share resources with your team but you may also wish to contribute ‘generic’ resources to the pool in the form of excellent ‘starter’ activities; plenary ideas; AFL techniques for example. In doing so you will be contributing to a professional learning community and we will all support each other in growing the distance. </li></ul><ul><li>You will need to nominate a team member to feed your team contributions to me on a regular basis. </li></ul><ul><li>You will structure your first post and return the information to me via e-mail or on paper.
