ONE YEAR CLOSER TO COLLEGE ADMISSIONS  Remember the NUMBER ONE college admissions factor…  RIGOR of courses taken while in high school  Participation in AP and AICE courses during high school more favorably recognized vs. on-line and dual enrollment courses  Enroll in highest level of courses in which you can be successful  Know where to go for help! PERSISTENCE is KEY!

Over 50% were enrolled in Calculus, 44% had at least 4 years of same foreign language, and 93% were enrolled in an advanced curriculum.
  12. 12.  A statewide weighted GPA will be used to calculate class rank and honors designations.  Weighted GPA: A=5.0, B=4.0, C=3.0, D=2.0, F=0 At the end of the seventh semester, honors graduates will be determined by the following scale:
  13. 13.  3.5 weighted GPA in the 16 credits identified by the Florida Board of Regents as college-preparatory courses: 4 English 4 Math (Algebra I and above) 3 Science 3 Social Studies 2 Foreign Language (must be the same language, 2 consecutive years) SAT score of 1270 or higher (class of 2012) or ACT score of 28 or higher (class of 2012, 2013) SAT score of 1280 or higher (class of 2013) SAT score of 1290 or higher (class of 2014 and thereafter) or ACT score of 29 or higher (class of 2014 and thereafter) 100 hours of documented community service

  16. 16. COURSE LEVEL OPTIONS AT NHS General Courses  No additional weighting Honors Courses  Courses receive additional .5 weight Advanced Studies Courses  Courses receive additional 1.0 weight Whatever you choose, always give 100% effort! A little motivation goes a LONG way!
  17. 17.  If signing up for a sport prior to tryouts, you MUST have coach’s initials as approval to be in the appropriate class period. Participation during the school day in a team sport satisfies the PE Skills requirement for graduation but NOT the personal fitness requirement.
  18. 18.  Select electives based on interests, ability, and future goals. Be sure to complete the sections on the front of the registration form asking you to select  additional elective options in the event one of your selections closes.  which elective to drop in the event you need additional support through Intensive Reading or Math.
  19. 19. 2012 FCAT 2.0 READING TEST IN APRIL Do Your BEST! Your Scores DO Matter!  Scores not in until summer for FCAT 2.0 Reading  Scores used to help determine course placement  State law requires students who have not passed FCAT Reading to receive additional support through Intensive Reading  FCAT Writing is February 26th

IMPORTANT REGISTRATION DATES: All current students received their registration forms in SOAR today, Tuesday, February 19th. Registration forms will be due in SOAR on Friday, February 22nd. Teachers signatures must be obtained by students from February 19th –February 22nd. This will ensure students are placed in the appropriate level where they will be most successful. No changes to course requests will be made after June 13, 2012. Requests for schedule changes to may be emailed to www.nhsschedulechange@gmail.com
