  6. 6. History of Dell  Dell computer was founded by Michael Dell. Dell traces origins to 1984 when Michael dell created PCs limited. The company changed its name to “Dell computer corporation” in 1988 and began expanding globally as a multi national company first in Ireland.  In 1992 Fortune magazine included Dell computer corporation in its list of the world’s 500 largest companies. Michael Dell is the youngest CEO of the fortune 500 ever. Dell Inc. is now the 38st among the fortune 500 companies (2012).

In 2003, the second contact center was opened at Hyderabad.  After the U.S., Dell India is the second biggest centre with 13,000 employees.  About 90% of dell computers are manufactured in China.

SWOT Analysis of Dell Strengths  • Ranked as the 2nd largest PC maker globally (2010).  • Renowned for its custom made computers, satisfying the customer needs specifically.  • Ranked as 38 in fortune 500 (2012). Weaknesses  Quality issues regarding the suppliers.  Weak relations with other retailers.

Opportunities  Diversification in peripherals and also in non computing items such as LCD TVs, it can compete in a whole new angle. Threats  Lower prices of the competitors are a direct threat to the firm due to the price conscious consumer base of the firm.  Strong competitors like HP , Sony , Acer, Intel, IBM.

  16. 16. Dell  Dell is a good company there is no question about that. Being a top company, what they offer will be of great quality as well. But as far as a machine is concerned, you cannot be 100% sure. But Dell offers great service ,so you wont have to worry about that also. According to me, XPS with i5 processor should give you a better feel than your previous experience with dell. 
