Overview <ul><li>My name is Norman Ellis </li></ul><ul><li>I started school in the 1960’s in Western Canada. </li></ul><ul><li>I graduated from college in the1980’s in Canada. </li></ul><ul><li>I worked as an Electrical Engineer, Automation Engineer and Consulting Company Owner/Operator </li></ul><ul><li>I returned to school 20+ years after my first college experience </li></ul><ul><li>I am hoping to team-teach an inclusion PreK </li></ul>

My personal definition of educational technology <ul><li>… is not limited to all things digital, rather is the creation of learning opportunities and improving students performance by incorporating appropriate technology and resources into the learning environment and instruction. </li></ul>

Kindergarten technology <ul><li>No computers – they were far to big to put in our schoolhouse </li></ul><ul><li>party line phone lines were the norm </li></ul><ul><li>Television was black and white with only 2 channels – none in the school </li></ul><ul><li>Used our environments technology of the day </li></ul>
  6. 6. High school technology <ul><li>Not much change from Kindergarten </li></ul><ul><li>Did get one overhead to share amongst the entire school </li></ul>
  7. 7. College technology <ul><li>Mainframe Computers and Punchtape (not even MSDos) </li></ul><ul><li>Commodore labs were I learned to program in fortran and basic </li></ul>
  8. 8. A vivid technology learning experience <ul><li>In 1969 dreams became a reality and no idea was discounted. </li></ul><ul><li>In 1972 borders and politics were forgotten for a hockey game </li></ul>
  9. 9. A technology I want to use in my classroom <ul><li>I want to utilize virtual reality allowing the students to explore as though they are really there. (the matrix has arrived and textbooks not necessary) </li></ul>Reference:
  10. 10. My vision of the classroom of the future <ul><li>The walls of the classroom have become projection walls controlled by a voice actuated computer helping students to become immersed in their learning (remember Star Trek). </li></ul>
  11. 11. A challenge for teaching <ul><li>Perhaps the biggest obstacle I will have to overcome in using technology to the utmost, is convincing the remaining traditionalists that learning is made easier when ones environment is used and the textbooks are put away </li></ul>Reference:
