Celtic Seas Partnership (CSP) • 4-year EU Life+ project (2013-16) • Brings together governments, marine users and interests in the Celtic Seas Region • Develop new ways of working together to encourage healthy, well-managed seas • Supporting EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) target of ‘Good Environmental Status’ by 2020

  5. 5. CSP Project Objectives 1. Increase stakeholder understanding of marine policy 2. Build & develop relationships between sectors and countries 3. Influence management practices 4. Increase stakeholder involvement in marine policy and decision-making 5. Improve the availability of information at Celtic Seas scale.

Future projections based upon an Environment first scenario 5. Cross cutting analysis of all future trend scenarios 6. Conclusions and Recommendations  Interactive mapping tools to present trends

Reviving the Ocean Economy  WWF-led assessment of the global ocean as a major economic asset  Examined key direct ocean assets, trade/transport and associated assets  Conservatively estimated the value of global ocean assets at $24 trillion  Annual gross marine product of $2.5 trillion – making it the 7th largest economy  Now looking to do regional assessments and WWF working towards inclusion of Celtic Seas

Timeline  Scoping work already complete  Various work packages to be completed  Build understanding from baseline assessment to economic and environmental assessments  Baseline assessment to begin in November  Stakeholder workshops and interviews to take place Q1/Q2 2016  Completion by September 2016 – final multi- national workshop
