Hackathon : A Marathon for the Brain
• An annual hackfest conducted by Neevites, Neev Hackathon kicked off on 29th June,2013
• It showcases Applications written using frameworks on platforms of the coder’s choice
• Teams participating from Bangalore, Pune and Delhi
• A 48-hour code-a-thon where 60 Neevites in 12 teams hacked through the ideas of their
choice ranging from Augmented Reality to Project Management and Gaming to UI
enhancements using 6 different frameworks
• 6 teams were eventually awarded prizes(though all of them got movie tickets!). The
following slides describe one of the awarded projects

What the Project is All About
• Redmine is a free and open source, web-based project management and bugtracking tool. It includes a calendar and Gantt charts to aid visual representation of
projects and their deadlines.
• Redmine QA, a plugin for Redmine, automates the whole QA process by the click of a
button.
• There is no need to maintain excel sheets and reports can be made available for any given
period of the project duration.
• Report generation is done without any manual intervention

Highlight of the Project : Charts, a Great Visual Aid
• The highlight of the project is the interactive charts
• The charts once generated, can for over a period of time be
zoomed in and out. For example, for a particular week, we can do
this by just selecting the project duration.
• One can view all the charts, rearrange them, and hide the ones
which he/she doesn’t want to view. Alternatively, a chart can be
viewed in full screen by clicking on the chart
• One can also view the list of defects for which the charts are being
displayed
• There are around 8 different charts which are generated on the fly
for any project duration
• All the charts can be viewed individually

How the Application was developed
• Information had to be acquired about the design and architecture
of the Redmine DB
• As opposed to Java, efficient queries were generated in Ruby on
Rails to obtain data to generate graphs

Challenges faced while developing the Application
• Ruby on Rails had a steep learning curve as Team Minesweeper had
previously worked on Java
• Generating the graphs required understanding the design and architecture
of the Redmine DB

Market for the Application
• This plugin can be used for agile projects that use Redmine.
• It will also help in reducing time to track all the stats and have reports right
at your finger tips
