  2. 2. The Wrath Of Grendel Characters<br />Hrothgar: A Danish king who was the second son of Healfdane. He built Herot, the great hall in Denmark<br />Grendel: A man-eating monster who terrorizes the Danish people<br />
  3. 3. Summary<br />The Danish people lived in peace.<br />Then this horrifying monster came about terrorizing the people.<br />The people had no defense against this huge strong monster. <br />Section Significance <br />It goes to explain how Grendel goes around eating and destroying things and the Danish people can’t stop him.<br />This section explains why Beowulf later came to help the Danish people.<br />Anglo-Saxons Beliefs<br />This shows how the Anglo-Saxons believed in creatures we see as a myth.<br />

The Coming of Beowulf<br />Characters<br />Beowulf- A mighty Geat with superhuman powers<br />Hrothgars Lieutenant- Greats Beowulf when their boat meets the Danes’ shore and escorts him to Hrothgar.<br />Summary<br />Beowulf hears tales of the destruction wrought by Grendel, he decides to travel to the land of the Danes and help Hrothgar defeat the demon.<br />He voyages across the sea with fourteen of his bravest warriors until he reaches Hrothgar’s kingdom<br />Beowulf explains that he is the son of Ecgtheow and owes his loyalty to Hygelac.<br />He says that he has heard about the monster terrorizing the Danes and has come to help Hrothgar. <br />

The coming of Beowulf<br />Section Significance <br />This section tells why Beowulf came to modern day Denmark.<br />Anglo-Saxon Beliefs<br />Beowulf was the superhuman or hero that the Anglo-Saxons believed in.<br />He had super strength and never backed down from a fight.<br />He was the strongest hero around.<br />

The Battle With Grendel<br />Characters<br />Beowulf- finally faces Grendel and kills him.<br />Grandel- was caught by surprise when he tried to feast on Beowulf.<br />Summary<br />Grendel travels to Herot thinking he would feast on some more Danish People.<br />Taken by surprise he ends up fighting Grendel.<br />Beowulf ripped Grendels arm off.<br />This killed the monster.<br />

The Battle With Grendel<br />Section Significance <br />This showed Beowulf’s abilities that enabled him to defeat Grendel.<br />Also it reflected on the future problems he would have with another monster.(Grendel’s Mother)<br />Anglo-Saxon Beliefs<br />This showed how man could be more powerful then monster and how they believed in such a thing.<br />

The Monsters Lair <br />Characters<br />Grendel’s Mother- Hrothgar explains another monster this one is female<br />Hrothgar- Tells Beowulf there are more monsters <br />Summary<br />People have seen other monsters.<br />Most people say the monsters have been seen around the Lake as if they live in it.<br />Also there is a female the suspect to be Grendel’s Mother and she is stronger then Grendel.<br />
