  1. 1. Ron Paul Visiting BethelFebruary 01, 2012 | 2:41 p.m. Congressman Ron Paul.Congressman Ron Paul of Texas will speak at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, in Benson GreatHall. The event, sponsored by Bethel’s College Republicans, is free and open to the public, withdoors opening at 5 p.m. Andrew Baker, president of the College Republicans, said that the groupcontacted all GOP presidential candidates in November to request a visit, and Ron Paul’s campaignwas the only one to accept the invitation. “Having one of the four remaining GOP candidates speakon campus will provide the Bethel community with a great opportunity to hear relevant politicaldiscourse,” says Baker. “His speech should inform Bethel students on important current issues thatour country is facing. Students can then form their own stances, deciding whether or not they agreewith his viewpoints.”The Bethel College Republicans have 313 members. The group’s goal is to provide Bethel studentswith the opportunity to hear great conservative speakers and volunteer for Republican causes andevents. Like 207 people like this. We are a community of ChristFollowers, as is defined by the institutions core values. As such, we are part of one body, brothers and sisters in Christ. Can we put aside party lines and live in Christs reconcilingwork? I think its awesome that we have the opportunity tohost a strong candidate from either party here at Bethel, and that it is a great opportunity toopen up political discourse and hear first-hand from a very unique candidate in aninteresting election year. Quit the hating on one side or the other or extrapolating about themoral majority/conservative evangelical coalition or any other garbage like that, and try tohave some civilized discourse over the issues that we should care about as loving Christiansin a broken world.
