Nutrition 120 - Unit 2 Project

  1. 1. Do Your Food Choices Adequately Nourish Your Body?
  2. 2. Throughout Unit 2 You will determine how well the food that you ingest nourishes your body You will determine how you can improve your personal eating habits to make your food choices even more beneficial
  3. 3. In addition to Unit 2Assignments You are required to complete a major project that has five parts:  3-Day Food Recall  Nutrient Analysis  Diet Analysis  Reflective Journal  Educational Presentation ○ Essay, PowerPoint, Prezi, Photostory, etc
  4. 4. The Project Unit 2 Project – worth 25% of your final mark Rest of course Project
  5. 5. Parts of the Project 3-Day Food Recall (5% of the project) Nutrient Analysis (20% of the project) Diet Analysis (20% of the project)  You do these within Unit 2 – instructions are there Reflective Journal (15% of the project) Educational Presentation (40% of the project)
  6. 6. Reflective Journal You begin writing this at the end of the first week of Unit 2 (approximately week 4 of the course) Continue to add dated entries each week until the end of the unit (approximately week 12 of the course)

Reflective Journal - InstructionsAs per the instructions for the project… Beginning in the first week of Unit 2 and every week while you work throughout the Unit:  report on the things you have learned in the course during that week  Write one dated entry per week When describing what you are learning:  relate how it builds a better understanding of your nutritional requirements and how it has helped you to improve your eating habits.

Reflective Journal – InstructionsAdvice The content notes on carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals and water should help you along the journey. Comment on the food recall activity and the nutrient analysis that you will perform with the aid of the Food Focus 3.4 program, as well as the various assignment work and overall diet analysis. Outline any challenges you faced along the way and how you overcame them. Discuss your use of time and how well you are able to keep up with your course work.
  9. 9. Reflective Journal - sample Your entries are about you… and what you learned in the unit. Your opinions are also important. It’s a REFLECTION… so reflect on what you learned, what surprised you, how it relates to you.

Final Thoughts This project is important You cannot get this done in a few days or a week  So, try to manage your time well Take this seriously… you can do it. Focus on your own data and nutrient requirements – this is about YOU Show (with charts/graphs) exactly which nutrients you are getting enough of, and not enough of.
