User Group: Blind/ Visually Impaired• There are 21 million people with visual difficulty in the US.•There are 2 million severely visually impaired (including legally blind) computer users just in the US.•70% Due to a lack of tools or high price points find it difficult to incorporate computers in their life style.•70% unemployment•The users face extreme challenges. They want to express themselves and their abilities in society. 11

IT and The Visually Impaired• Expensive non-integrated IT solutions each serving limited purposes• The user needs a custom Braille converter that costs over $2000• The user needs to carry a laptop and a braille converter at all time for communication with the sighted• For the user to be successful, they must have learnt and mastered Perkins Braillewriter, Personal Digital Assistant, Slate and Stylus, Audio books, and a PC 12
  13. 13. Findings•Visually impaired people are independent•Using process should be easy and simple•Users prefer the forms which follow function•The users tend to be more stressed•Their tactile sense is the main bridgebetween the user and the product• Braille is “Dying” 13
