Rfid And It S Applicatrion

 1. 1. RFID And Its Application Presented by:- NAYAN GAURAV
 2. 2. What is RFID??

R adio F requency Id entification

Means of automatically identifying objects.

Transmits the unique identity of an object or person over radio waves.

 3. 3. There Are Two Elements of RFID…

Tag

Reader

 4. 4. How It Works…

Reader transmits radio frequency energy

– Provides power for the tag

– Enables communication to and from the tag

– Different operating frequencies are possible

This is passive RFID tag. No battery in tag. All power comes from reader.

 5. 5. Then, What is Active RFID tag??

Possible to build a battery into the tag.

– Increased complexity, size and cost

– Improved performance (range) & functionality.

 6. 6. The Earlier Versions of RFID…

Barcodes (traditional and 2D)

Magnetic strips

 7. 7. How It Works??

Let us take a practical example…

 8. 8. In Manufacturing – Retail Sector…

After manufacturing, products are packaged

Pallets and/or individual cartons/boxes have RFID tags

Info includes date and location of manufacture, destination, etc.

Pallets placed into local inventory

RFID tags scanned and inventory systems updated

Logistics software notified – delivery is scheduled

 9. 9.
 10. 10. … cont

Pallets leave factory, en route to MegaMart warehouse

RFID tags allow automated in-transit tracking

RFID readers at MegaMart warehouse acknowledge delivery and initiate payment to manufacturer

Pallets leave store warehouse

RFID readers in individual stores update inventory systems as shipment enters premises

MegaMart store shelves are stocked

Retailer knows … units of product needed on shelf … and … on display.

 11. 11. This type of situation can be avoided easily…
 12. 12. Its All About a Tag…
 13. 13. Its not too bulky too…
 14. 14. But…

Not as cheap as some alternatives.

Needs trained people to handle.

RFID enhances the visibility of operations.

visibility is only useful where it influences a decision. (proper utilization of the available information).
