Seborrheic Keratosis is benign growth on top layer of the skin often characterized as non-cancerous. It usually originates in the keratinocytes and aged people tend to suffer from it more rather than the young lot so age is a very prominent factor in the origination of this disorder.

Seborrheic Keratosis Treatment, Symptoms, Causes of Seborrheic Keratosis

  1. 1. http://www.naturalherbsclinic.com/Seborrheic-Keratosis.php SEBORRHEIC KERATOSIS Seborrheic keratosis is a medical term used to define a benign dermatological condition characterized by the presence of harmless skin lesions appearing during the adulthood. It is also known by other names such as basal cell papilloma, senile warts or brown warts. These are non-cancerous in nature, which rarely or almost never turn into malignant growths. They mostly appear singly or sometimes in groups giving a stuck-on appearance, found in areas such as shoulder, face, neck or chest. They begin as waxy, scaly masses which gradually thicken to take on a warty look. Color darkens with time and turns black which might be misdiagnosed as melanoma. Commonly found in sunlight exposed areas by epidermal proliferation of cells. EPIDEMIOLOGY OF SEBORRHEIC KERATOSIS: It is more common in females due to the increased incidence found in pregnant women and in females who are undergoing estrogen replacement therapies, constituting epidemiology of seborrheic keratosis. The incidence of seborrheic keratosis increases with age. Almost all elderly people have at least one or two of these growths. Africans or people with darker skin tone have less chances of developing seborrheic keratosis.
  2. 2. CAUSES OF SEBORRHEIC KERATOSIS: Exact etiology is not known but sunlight has been attributed to be the most common cause of seborrheic keratosis. Non-sunlight exposed areas can also show appearance of these warts in some cases. Genetic alterations in genes encoding for epidermal growth factor receptors have been identified. It also has some familial tendency. It occurs commonly in pregnant women. It resembles a dab of candle wax on skin and non-contagious in nature. SYMPTOMS OF SEBORRHEIC KERATOSIS: Light brownish macular lesion, flat and sharply defined in appearance is how seborrheic keratosis lesions initiate. They may be more numerous or few in number. Lesions have their color ranging from light tan to brown to black. They change their appearance from velvety to verrucous surface as they grow constituting an important symptom of seborrheic keratosis. They sometimes itch or catch and rub on garments to cause discomfort, irritation and inflammation. Occurrence is common on almost any body part except for palm, soles and mucous membranes. TREATMENT OF SEBORRHEIC KERATOSIS:
  3. 3. Treatment of seborrheic keratosis is usually not required for it being such a harmless condition of skin, but they might present as a problem for some people who are more considered about their external appearance because of its size and presence on visible areas of the body. These growths might also be perceived by the patient as a sign of aging making him mentally distressed. Unnecessary touching or rubbing of these warts is prohibited by the doctor. These growths can be removed by surgical excision, cryotherapy or laser procedures leaving behind only little or almost no scar. Seborrheic keratosis herbal product cures the condition by decreasing the growth of these masses, leaving behind a smooth healthy skin. No side effects are associated with this herbal product on account of its formation from pure herbs and plant extracts. It provides a chance to escape from painful surgical procedures.
