After researching a variety of songs by
unsigned artists on websites like Jamendo
and unsignedartist.com we have decided to
choose the song ‘let’s restart’ by madelyniris.
We emailed the artist to get permission to
use the song for our A2 coursework. We were
inspired by the indie pop genre, and
therefore, decided to choose a song that is
similar in meaning and tune to artists, such
as Lorde, Lana Del Rey, Marina and the
Diamonds, etc.

3. MADDIE MUNSELL
Madelyniris is her stage name, but she is also known as Maddie
Munsell. She stated herself that she is inspired by indie pop music, as
well as emo, hence why she records slow tracks, with meaningful,
emotional lyrics.
Her relatable lyrics draw from her nostalgic perspective and her
interest in adventure, fantasy themes. She stated ‘i write imperfect
music and hope it lives inside your heart’ which is something we can
use in our own video to show different forms of expression – one way
in which we are thinking of doing this is by including a scene of the
actress painting a canvas.

4. WHY WE CHOSE
THIS GENRE
We as a group are all interested in indie
pop music and decided since we are
familiar with those specific codes and
conventions, it would be appropriate to
use our knowledge in this genre and
apply it to our own work. We have already
discussed locations ideas, such as,
Wapping, Southbank, Abney Park, etc.
Usually, in indie pop videos, there are
scenic outdoors shots, which establishes a
particular mood – and arguably, this ties
in with the lyrics of the video.
