What’s Taiwan like for IT?• Internet savvy, wealthy population• Smartphone penetration to reach 40% (2012)• Facebook Nation: 10 million users (45%)• In general, use western social media• Heavy gamers, social, online, flash, mobile• Inexpensive developer talent – Fliptop, PicCollage based in US but tech in Taipei• Heavy spenders, eCommerce is popular – Average app spend nearly US$2 – Android is currently barred from paid apps, so stick to iOS for now!

What Japanese companies can gain• Localization in Greater China – A stepping stone to the Mainland – Chinese is Internet’s next biggest language – Close access to HTC, Acer, Asus, Quanta, BenQ – Taiwan is more like Japan than you think! • Partnerships with Taiwanese startups – Integration of existing services – Third-party collaborations – Access to a medium-sized, mature Internet market
