  3. 3. . A smart phone is basically a device that lets you make telephone calls, but also adds In features that you might find on a personal digital assistant or a computer. For example the ability to send, receive, e-mail and edit office documents. Smart phones do have an effect on productivity, communication in the work place, Social engagement and education. However they do have advantages as well as disadvantages. I would state that smart phones are beneficial to society though most people are using them all the time and this is having an effect on the world around us especially in the education, social sectors and in workplaces.4/1/2011 Natasha Amanda chuni 3

  9. 9. Research questions and results asked about smart phonesThe research was done by the Academic and entrepreneurialinnovation at CU-Boulders School of Journalism and MassCommunication. How often do you use your phone smart phone in thesesituations? Idle time at work or school (during breaks, lunch, bo 75% 17% 7% 1% ring meetings/classes, etc.) Riding the bus, train, or in car as 74% 19% 5% 2% passenger (commute) Waiting in line (examples: coffee shop, grocery 55% 30% 14% store, for movie to start, picking up kids, etc.) 4/1/2011 Natasha Amanda chuni 9
  10. 10. Research findingsThe research was asking how often people use their smart phones atwork, school break, lunch, boring meeting, classes, in the bathroom, ridingthe bus and waiting in a line. The research findings show that 75% of people use their phones at school inboring meetings and classes. It also shows that 74% of people use theirphones when riding the bus and 55% when waiting in a line. These researchresults support my findings because it can be identified that all the areasmentioned above are places where people should either beinteracting, socializing, or working. However it can be seen that most peoplespend their time on their smart phones. This supports my argument becauseit shows that there is a higher chance of unproductivety. 4/1/2011 Natasha Amanda chuni 10
  11. 11. ConclusionPersonally I would say smart phones do have an effect on productivity, communication in the workplace, social engagement, and in education. Howeversmart phones have had different effects on different users. I would say smart phoneshave their pros and cons. They are making communication much efficient for manypeople and the world global village keeps on expanding. It can be seen that too manypeople are becoming dependant on smart phones and this has resulted into lazinessand there’s less productivity in the various areas of society. In conclusion I would saythat smart phones are a Benefit to society however they have consequences whenoverused. 4/1/2011 Natasha Amanda chuni 11
