Emmerdale

 1. 1. Holly and Katie B
2. 2. HOW IS REGIONAL IDENTITY REPRESENTED THROUGH THE SOAP EMMERDALE LOOKING AT THE 4 SPECIFIC AREAS YOU HAVE STUDIED?
(Mise-en-Scene, Editing, Camerawork, Sound)
3. 3. Where is it set?
In the fictional village of Emmerdale, West Yorkshire.
4. 4. Sound...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_D996RL7c0
5. 5. Music.
The opening credits have a soundtrack which is loud, orchestral and uses many combined instruments to create the piece. This could represent unity and togetherness in the tight-knit community of Emmerdale Farm, also the solo instruments playing over the top could represent the many storylines that go in in the soap.
6. 6. Dialogue.
Most characters have a strong Yorkshire accent which acts as a strong indication of their origin and suggests that the characters are all similar people with close relationships.
7. 7. Mise-en-Scene
8. 8. Generally, nobody wears particularly glamorous clothes, especially the men. This is due to the practicality and adds to the suggestion that it is a relaxed and united community.
E.g. They wear farmers caps, have beards.
9. 9. The setting is in the countryside where there are a lot of fields and old style farm houses, conventional of the Yorkshire location. Family Trades and businesses- emphasising their bond as a community.
10. 10. Editing.
11. 11. No character has a significantly larger screen time than another, which suggests equality.
Generally straight cuts are used (no creative or out of the ordinary transitions- realism)
Could represent the simplicity of their lives.
