an operating system as part of its efforts
to push the design and innovation
ecosystemintheelectronicsandITsector.
MinisterofStateforElectronicsandInformation
Technology Mr Rajeev Chandrasekhar informed
this to Parliament recently. This development is
inadditiontothegovernment’searlierstatement
that it is talking with tech companies to come
up with an indigenous OS. The project endorses
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambition to create domestic
leaders across multiple industries and product categories, as well as
strengthen the country’s technology industry.
Although it’s a step in the right direction as India’s very own
OS will give a better control over content, data and privacy to the
government at local level, it’s going to be not as easy as one thinks.
Developing an operating system has its own set of challenges and
the government’s statement leaves more questions than answers. It
mustbenotedthatdevelopinganOStakestimeaswellasresources,
which is the reason why majority of the handset makers use Android
as their operating system. The government needs to ensure there’s a
marketfortheoperatingsystem.WhiledevelopinganOSisimportant,
working towards it without specifications about the hardware makes
itincomplete.ItmustbenotedthatittookyearsforiOS,Androidand
KaiOS to come into being, and the tech majors filed several patents
to keep their intellectual property.
While the government’s intentions in developing an indigenous
operating system may be right, the project needs to be a long-term
one with proper planning. It is important to lay down a definitive
framework and form strategic alliances with OEMs for the project’s
implementation.
Meanwhile, with the advent of agri-tech apps and digital
tools, farmers have got increased access to information through
smartphones.Ithasalsobeenobservedthattheadoptionofadvanced
agricultural technologies among Indian farmers is gradually on an
upward direction. With the increased penetration of smartphones,
farmers have got access to the latest technology. They are regularly
updated with the recent advances and information related to
knowledgeandskillfordifferentagricultureunitoperationsandfinally
get the appropriate ability and sharing experience.

opportunity to plaster the Leica label on a
phone, throw some Leica-inspired filters
into the camera and gallery applications,
and call it a day? We should be hearing
more about the product and Leica

Musk was asked on Twitter if he would

attention to this,” he said. This
development comes just after Musk ran a
Twitter poll asking users if they believed
Twitter adheres to the principle of free

this poll will be important. Please vote
carefully.” The overall ballet was revealed
as 70 percent of people voted “no”.

Indigenous OS
Will it ever make it?
MYMOBILE
The government’s recent announcement that it is considering
developing an operating system, is seen as an interesting move to
break the dominance enjoyed by Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS.
Although it’s a step in the right direction as India’s very own OS will
give a better control over content, data and privacy to the government
at local level, it’s going to be not as easy as one thinks. Developing an
operating system has its own set of challenges and the government’s
statement leaves more questions than answers.

T
here is a duopoly of Google’s
Android and Apple’s iOS
across the world, and India
is definitely not an exception
to this. In this context, the government’s
recent announcement to come up with
a policy that will facilitate an ecosystem
for the industry to create an indigenous
operating system, is seen as an interesting
move to break the dominance enjoyed by
these two tech majors. In order to shake
the status quo, Minister of State for
Electronics and Information Technology
Rajeev Chandrasekhar recently informed
the Parliament that “the government is
considering development of the operating
system, as part of its efforts to create a
vibrant design and innovation ecosystem in
Electronics and Information Technology.”
Government’s outlook
This development is in addition to the
government’s earlier statement that it is
talking with tech companies to come up
with an indigenous OS. “There is no third
one. Therefore, in a lot of ways there is
tremendous interest in MeitY (Ministry of
Electronics and Information Technology)
and in the Government of India to even
createanewhandsetoperatingsystem.We
are talking to people. We are looking at a
policy for that,” said Chandrasekhar, in an
interview with a news agency.
The government is looking for
capabilities within start-up and academic
ecosystems for the development of the
OS, said Chandrasekhar. “If there is some
real capability then we will be very much
interested in developing that area because
that will create an alternative to iOS and
Android which then an Indian brand can
grow,” he stated.
As per reports, detailed discussions are
presently focusing on setting up clear goals
for the project, which will be followed by
legislation to target specific development
goals. The minister indicated that start-
ups and companies working on an Indian
OS may be attractive to domestic and
foreign investment when raising capital.
Interestingly, the project conforms to
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambition
to create domestic leaders across multiple
industries and product categories, as well
as strengthen the country’s technology
industry.
OS players and
breakthroughs
It must be noted that the
operating system is the main
software of any computer and
mobile device that weaves
in the entire hardware and
software system for effective
functioning of the OS.
Android and iOS have been
ruling the mobile OS market
for the last many years, and

of market estimates, iOS and
Android account for nearly 99%
of the world’s smartphone market.

Statcounter.TheyalsohaveChromeOSand
MacOS platforms, respectively, which run
on computers. Control over these platforms
gives them a degree of control on how apps
are made, data flows, data sharing, and
more. On the device front, although India is
an increasingly important market to Apple,
it continues to face stiff competition from
Android handsets in the country.
Remarkably, Microsoft tried to break
the duopoly a couple of years back and had
even purchased brand Nokia to push out
Windows phones, but it failed badly. Even
BlackBerry has already burned their hands
in this segment. Likewise, Mozilla’s Firefox
OS was discontinued after efforts to crack
India’s mobile market with low-cost devices
failed. The Linux Foundation’s Tizen also
didn’t find any takers. According to reports,
China’s government has promoted Linux-
derived Kylin OS for locals, but it has not
won much market share.
Following the US sanctions in 2019,
Huawei’s HarmonyOS in China is another
attempt by a technology player to try its
handsontheoperatingsystem.Considering
its cross-device communication and many
other features, HarmonyOS could be a
serious competitor to Android in days to
come.
Back in India, we have Indus OS,
createdbyagroupofIITgraduatesin2013.
However,it’snotagovernment-mandatedor
supported OS. We’ll discuss about this later
in the story.
A step in the right direction
Although the government has offered no
further clarity on its plans, experts believe
it’s a step in the right direction. “This is
a very interesting and important intent
announcement considering the concerns
around privacy and monopoly power of the
current OS incumbents like Android and
iOS in other countries. Our own OS will
give a better control over content, data and
privacy to the government at local level,”
says Navkendar Singh, Associate Research
Director, Client Devices IPDS, IDC India.
Arushi Chawla, Research Analyst at
Counterpoint, says the Indian government,
by reconsidering the development of an
indigenous mobile operating system, is
taking forward its aim of becoming self-
reliant or “atmanirbhar”. “Indian app
companieshavebeenfacingobstaclesfrom

couple of years back, Apple increased the

which impacted the equalization levy. Last
year, following protests, Google decided to
slash the commission it charges developers
selling products and services on its Play
Store. Further, recently, Apple came under
anantitrustinvestigationinIndiaforalleged
abuse of dominance,” says Arushi.
Whilethefocusonhardwaredevelopment
is already on, the software and applications
should not be left behind. “It is equally
strategically important to have our own OS

Timeframe and resources
are a must
The government has neither given any
timeframe nor has it talked about hardware
part which complements software in the
developmentofanoperatingsystem.Itmust
be noted that developing an OS takes time
aswellasresources,whichisthereasonwhy
majority of the handset makers use Android
as their operating system. The government
needs to give a sufficient amount of time
for the OS development and execution,
besidesmakingsurethere’samarketforthat

As far as hardware is concerned, a
smartphoneincludesimportantcomponents
like screen, cameras, chipset, battery and

make a smartphone work. While developing
an OS is important, working towards it
without specifications about the hardware
is like developing a car’s engine without a
body, notes Newslaundry in a report.
In terms of technicalities, there are two
types of operating systems today – open

Android works on an open source platform,
which means there is a basic version of it
that can be twisted by different handset
manufacturers to fit and work with their

The government has not made anything
clear on it that how it plans to provide an
ecosystem, where new hardware will be
designed and developed and how will a new
OS be in line.
Areas of concern
Significantly, it took years for iOS, Android
and KaiOS to come into being, and
companiesfiledseveralpatentstokeeptheir
intellectual property. Google and Android,
in particular, hold patents for hardware as
well as software – all of which are fiercely
guarded. In such a scenario, how will the
government’s policy navigate patents held
by companies? Navkendar has this to say,
“This has to be grounds up effort right from
building hardware running an indigenous
OS / software / application layer on top of
it. Patents will be a roadblock, but licensing
arrangements can be looked at to overcome
those aspects.”
User privacy is going to be another
area of concern, as an OS has access to,
and control, all the data input by users into
their devices. “A task as simple as sending
a message requires data that is processed
by the software – such as a phone number
and an email address, both of which are
connected to various kinds of information
like bank accounts. It only gets trickier with
more complex functions like making phone
calls and payments,” writes tech journalist
NabeelAhmedinanarticleonNewslaundry.
“With established operating systems,
tech companies are under pressure to
deliver on their promises of privacy and
safety. This has intensified over the past
couple of years, with debates and demands
for companies to fix vulnerabilities in their
security. It’s why Apple delayed the roll-out

Besides, the government surveillance
could be one of the key worries for an
operating system that will be driven by the
government.
Initial hurdles and
way forward
AccordingtoArushi,therearemanyhurdles
in developing an indigenous operating
system in a multi-lingual country like India.
“Along with technological competencies,
there is a need to ensure proper technical
maintenance. Besides, competing with
companies already having a strong installed
baseisachallengingtask.Fromaconsumer
standpoint, it takes much effort and time to
convince users to shift to a new technology/
platform,” she emphasizes.
“Securityandprivacyaspectsplayavery
important role here given the increasing
digitization in daily lives. However, if
India’s efforts in relation to BOSS (Bharat
Operating System Solutions) are anything
to go by, the country has a long way to go
in earning prospective users’ confidence,”
Arushi adds. It should be noted that BOSS
proved to be ineffective at a mass scale and
hackers from China were able to break into
the Indian government’s servers.
As discussed above, prior attempts
have been made by players such as
Microsoft and Blackberry in introducing
a different operating system. Even the
Indian government has made earlier
attempts with BOSS (Bharat Operating
System Solution) and Indus OS to develop
its indigenous operating system but have
been unable to counter and/or match the
presenceoftechgiants.“Thepastattempts,
however, especially with Indus OS, which
is available in multiple regional languages
inspires the Indian app developers to
build locally relevant content, helped the
Indian government realize its potential and
prepare for the expected bottlenecks for
the upcoming journey towards an in-house
operating system,” says Arushi.

I
QOO recently launched its
premium device as IQOO 9
SE. It is launched in under
the 35k price segment in
India, which is quite good for a
powerful chipset that it is offering.
So, the question arises is this
really a good mid-budget all round
smartphone? Well, let’s take a look
together with this complied review
on its every spec.
The smartphone is said to
look similar to its predecessor
IQOO 7. Is it true? What are the
major upgrades and where the
smartphone can be improvised?
Let’s find out together!
Design
The design of iQOO9 SE looks
quite good and premium. It
sports a glass sandwich design
with a plastic frame which feels
premium to hold. The glass
back flaunts a matte finish
which makes it look rich and
sophisticated, especially the
Space Fusion Black variant.
Although the looks on any
smartphone are very subjective,
however I really loved that this
finish isn’t a fingerprint magnet. It
also has squat sensation up glass
protection, so that is a thumbs up!
Furthermore, it does looks like
Iqoo7 but has a slightly changed
camera module at the back. The
back panel curls into the frame for
a better grip and feel in the hand.
The phone is also fairly sleek with
8.3 millimeters thickness and
the weight is fine with 197grams.
Some other details on this
includes, no microSD slot and no

wireless charging as well. There
is also no 3.5mm headphone
jack, however I could still
bundle up the headphone jack
dongle (USB Type-C converter)
that came inside the box.
Iqoo9 SE is also ip52 rated
for splash resistance and it
flaunts stereo speakers on the
bottom. It also features an extra
speaker in the earpiece to give
out ultimate stereo speaker
experience. The power and
volume buttons are both clicky
and accessible. I didn’t find
any lag or slow responses.
Display
Now coming to the front, you
get this amazing display quality
with promising specs. You get
this great AMOLED panel. It
produces such bright, vibrant,
and sharp colors, so there are
no issues with the outdoor
viewing. The phone also sports
a specialized Intelligent Display
Chip paired with a 120Hz
refresh rate. With this also gets
the option to set smart switch
option, where your device
will adjust the rates as per
your usage. Or you can also
force 120Hz rate everywhere.
Personally, I preferred the
120Hz rate everywhere as it
makes the Ui felt more fluid
and smoother.
The iQOO 9 SE
concentrates on providing
top-of-the-line technology
beneath the hood, which lets
gamers make the most of the
high refresh rate capability. The
chip boosts the frame rate of
support games by employing
the frame rate interpolation
approach. On the iQOO 9 SE,
BGMI currently offers frame
rate interpolation up to 90fps.
More on the gaming aspect
in our iQOO 9 SE review’s
performance section.
The iQOO 9 SE comes
packed with Wide vine license
as well. It simply means full
Netflix and Prime experience
with Full HD mode. It also
has HDR support though I
couldn’t find it while watching
Netflix or Prime. Now, with
such smartphones, people also
face tainting issues, however, I
used the phone for more than
15 days, and I didn’t find any
tainting on the screen. The
front also features the in-built
fingerprint scanner which is
fast enough with giving off
more modern vibes.
So, overall combining the
design and display, the iQOO
9 SE is an excellent choice. It
has both style and subtleness,
with no issues whatsoever.
Performance
Now, given the price range,
one can expect better design
and display in this category.
However, the chipset is what
make things even better and
interesting. Talking about
performance specs, the iQOO 9
SE is designed for consumers
who want the best from their
smartphone.
Under the hood, there’s a
Snapdragon 888 SoC, which
is always notorious for its
thermal throttling and heating
issues. Surprisingly, iQOO has
kept the temperature under
control here. Under the hood, it
features a vapor cooling system
that keeps the tablet cool
whether you’re playing games
or doing intensive chores.
Every day for at least an
hour, I played BGMI on this
device with HDR visuals and
Extreme frame rate settings.
During my iQOO 9 SE
evaluation time, the phone did
not lag or stutter in any way.
Despite running BGMI at high
graphics settings for lengthy
periods of time, the phone only
became somewhat warm to the
touch, which is to be expected.
Also, it supports ultra-HD
graphics with ultra-frame
rates, which is rather rare to
find in such budget range. The
performance was super smooth
and nice.

Moreover, the phone has a Monster
mode that effectively maximizes the
capabilities of the available chipset.
You’ll also receive 4D Game Vibration,
which improves haptic performance when
playing games. If you don’t play a lot of
games, the 4500 mAh battery can last a
day. The phone offered me a screen-on
time (SoT) of roughly 6 hours on days
when I merely glanced through social
media or watched YouTube videos. Even if
you don’t play, the 4500 mAh battery will
provide you around 5 hours of SoT.
In the box, iQOO includes a 66W rapid
charger that charges the battery in 35-
40 minutes. It isn’t as fast as the iQOO
9 Pro (Review), which supports 120W
fast charging, but it costs nearly twice as
much as the iQOO 9 SE.
The iQOO 9 SE runs on Fun touch
OS 12. In terms of Fun Touch OS 12,
the software based on Android 12 is
somewhat superior to the software based
on Android 11. It still doesn’t support
Google’s Material You Wallpaper theming,
but it does include a slew of new features
including Dynamic Effects customization,
numerous gestures, and 3D surround
sound compatibility, among others.
Furthermore, the UI animations are quite
fluid and quick at the same time, similar
to what we saw in OnePlus’ Oxygen OS
10. Finally, the iQOO 9 SE receives the
February security patch, which is not the
most recent but is still acceptable given
that certain flagships, like as the ROG
Phone 5s, received the September 2021
security patch in February.
Cameras
In comparison to its more costly brothers,
the iQOO 9 SE camera module is far
more inconspicuous. A triple-camera
array featuring a 48MP primary camera
with OIS, a 13MP ultrawide camera with
a 120-degree field of view, and a 2MP
monochrome sensor is housed in the
rectangular-shaped module.
The colours and general output of the
iQOO 9 SE camera samples that we took
throughout the evaluation impressed me.
The colors are somewhat more saturated
than they appear in real life in certain
situations, but the dynamic range is
rather nice. The daytime pictures were
awesome with a lot of details, with an
excellent dynamic range. In lowlight, the
phone also catches superb details in the
shadows. Yes, there is some noise, but it’s
only perceptible when shooting in very low
light. Other than that, the images were
fairly sharp and nice.
The color temperature of the ultrawide
camera is similar to that of the primary
camera, however there is significant
purple fringing. The ultrawide camera
also functions as a macro sensor, which
is a far superior implementation to the
common 2MP camera sensors found in
many smartphones.
The main camera on the phone
supports 4k video recording at 60fps.
However, ois is only available till 30fps
shooting. This was quite a bummer, but
the video quality covers up for it nicely.
It still features the same stability and
sharpness at 30fps as well.
The iQOO 9 SE offers a 32MP front
camera for selfies. And, I have to say
that in the budget or luxury sector, iQOO
and Vivo smartphones take the finest
selfies. The same goes for the iQOO 9
SE. The colors are vibrant, and the bokeh
appears to be natural with good all-round
exposure. However, before snapping a
shot, make sure you tweak the bokeh in
the camera app. With beauty mode off,
you can get close to natural skin tones
and colors in selfies taken with the iQOO
9 SE.
Battery
The iQOO 9 SE sports a good 4500 mAh
battery with 66W flash charge. Although
the 4,500mAh battery won’t last more
than a day, the 65W fast charging will
come in handy. It will only take 31
minutes to charge from zero to one
hundred percent.
Overall, if you’re a heavy user, make
sure you have the 65W charger with you;
otherwise, most chargers will only charge
this smartphone at 18W. So, sure, the
battery size gave me a little bummer, but
hey, they also included a 65W charger, so
I can’t really complain.
Conclusion
So, at roughly Rs 33,990, should you
buy the iQOO 9 SE? When it comes to
performance, the premium smartphone
meets all the criteria. The iQOO 9 SE
will not disappoint the gamer in you with
Snapdragon 888, an intelligent display
chip, and some software gimmicks. For a
buttery smooth experience, the 6.62-inch
AMOLED display boasts a 120Hz refresh
rate and a 300Hz touch sampling rate.
The battery capacity isn’t the finest in
class, but depending on your use case,
you may anticipate around a day’s worth
of power. n

W
e are going to take a look
at the brand new Jabra
Evolve2 75. Now these
are fantastic headphones
for those who are looking to have great call
quality because you work from home or just
spend a lot of time on phone and would like
to have the best audio quality because hey,
your business is on the phone. The Evolve2
75 not only are good for indoor but if you
are going to be walking outside and you
want to have something you can listen to
music and also take great calls – well this is
the headphone for you.
You can expect 11 levels of ANC and
the Jabra Evolve2 75 has about eight mics
and four of them are going to be used
when you have that ANC, so it’s giving you
the best audio experience. So let’s go and
check them out and see how good they are.
What’s inside the box?
The Jabra Evolve2 75 comes with a nice
carrying pouch that gives it a full protection
and nice touch versus the competition as
they only give carrying small bags. Inside
that it does have a USB dongle that’s going
to allow you to do a direct connection to
your PC, to your tablet to whatever device
it is and we wanted to highlight that even
though it’s USB-A, you can’t have a USB
converter and it does work. Then, it have

and desk stand. So this is the
complete kit of what you can
expect.
Design
Now focusing on the
headphone itself! One of the
things we think is the coolest
is the fact that it has the mic
that pops out. Now you have
a lot of different mics that are
going to give you a superior call
experience.
You have got a lot of
flexibility in the headband
and have a nice memory foam
leather type material – it’s an
on-ear model. The earcup is
ergonomically constructed
with dual-foam technology
and a redesigned pattern for
increased airflow, making
it extremely comfortable
for an on-ear headset. Even
after a long period of use,
the headphones remain
really comfortable, which
is remarkable for on-ear
headphones; the dual foam
earcups must have done the
trick.
The Evolve2 75 doesn’t
overheat – it stays cool which
is very important to me. And
then what you have again on
the bottom – you have some
controls. The power switch on
the left earcup of the Jabra
Evolve2 75 initiates the
Bluetooth connection search
when pushed all the way
down for a few seconds. You
also have the HearThrough/
ANC button, which switches
between HearThrough and
ANC settings.
Three buttons on the right
earcup regulate volume, up and
down, and the middle button
controls play/pause. Answer or
end calls or open a Microsoft
Teams notifications with the
button on the exterior front of
the earcup. The microphone
boom is also located on
the right earcup, and when
extended or retracted, it mutes
or unmutes the microphone.
Sound Quality
When streaming music via
Bluetooth and making phone
calls, the sound quality is
outstanding. Background
noise was nearly completely
removed, which is ideal for a
hybrid working environment.
These headphones not only
look wonderful, but they also
feel great. They’re also very
well-made, which comes
as no surprise given Jabra’s
reputation.
The 40mm speakers give
excellent sound quality when
listening to music. The mids,
lows, and highs are all in
perfect harmony. With this
headset, I’ve spent many hours
listening to music and viewing
YouTube videos. That’s how
good it is.
The Evolve2 75 is the
first Evolve headset with fully
adjustable Jabra Advanced
Active Noise Cancellation, so
you can choose how much (or
how little) of your surroundings
you hear. It’s called
HearThrough, and you can turn
it on by pressing the button on
the left headset’s bottom.
Now from a Bluetooth
perspective – Bluetooth 5.2
– you do have multi-connect
which means it’s going to allow
you to connect to two devices
at the same time and you can
also pair up to eight devices
at the same time. Now these
do have on-head detection so
when you put them on they
know.
Microphone Quality
The 8 built-in microphones are
ideal for video conferencing.
Any extraneous noise is
effectively isolated by the
microphone. So, no matter
where you are, you may speak
normally without raising your
voice.
There are two ways to
use the microphone in this
situation. The first is the
performance mode, in which
the boom-arm microphone
is lowered. This is perfect for
use in noisy environments.
The second mode is the
discreet mode, in which the
microphone is tucked away.
This one is for when you’re on
the go and don’t want to look
out of place. There is also a red
busy light that is visible when
you are on call.
Battery
Bluetooth headphones require
a lot of battery life, especially
if you use them all day on your
commute and at work. With
ANC turned off, the Jabra
Evolve2 75 may last up to 25
hours of call time or 36 hours
of music on a single charge.
The Jabra Evolve2 75
headphones work harder to
filter out noise with ANC turned
on, giving you around 18 hours
of call time and 33 hours of
music streaming. But fret not,
because Jabra’s fast charge
technology provides 4 hours of
battery life in just 15 minutes
of charging.
The lithium-ion battery lasts up
to 33 hours (with ANC turned
on) for music listening and 25
hours (with ANC turned off) for
video playback. I’ve only had to
fully charge it once in the last
two weeks, when I first took it
out of the box.
Conclusion
The Evove2 75 is exceptionally
comfortable, offers outstanding
audio quality, excellent
microphone isolation, good
Active Noise Cancellation, and
can play music for 36 hours
with ANC turned off and 33
hours with
ANC turned on. The
optional wireless
charging station
gives you 4 hours of
battery life in just 15 minutes
and is a great place to set the
headphones while they charge.
Overall, the Jabra Evove2
75 has some good features
that help it overcome its
shortcomings. Despite this, I’ll
continue to use the Evolve2
75 as my daily headset, and
will give it a thumbs up for the
same reason! n

amazing collections of analogue

about. With elegant designs and flawless
features, Titan is among the promising brands
you would like to reach out to again. Now, the
brand is also making waves in the smartwatch
industry, which is one of India’s fastest-growing
segments as well. The Titan Smart Pro is the
company’s most recent product.
The Titan Smart Pro was originally priced
at Rs 14,995, but it is currently available at
Rs 11,995. The smartwatch has an AMOLED
display, GPS, and SpO2 tracking, as well
as long battery life. However, with so much
competition in the smartwatch market, is the
Titan Smart Pro worth the money? What are
some other features that the smartwatch is
packed with? What makes the smart a ‘Pro’ in
the list? Let’s find out.

with its own magnetic charging
pad, which is a great thing. It
also contains a warranty card
and other documentation as
well. The Smart Pro box also
contains the QR codes to
assist you in downloading the
supporting Titan Smartwatch
App and details about the
product.
Design and Build
The Titan Smart Pro comes
with an aluminium casing with
a popular circular dial. Despite
its aluminium construction,
the watch doesn’t feel heavy
and feels very pleasant and
premium to wear on the
wrist. It is one of the super
light-weighted and compact
smartwatches I’ve ever tried!
Generally, smartwatches are a
lot bigger and heavier, however,
if you like your smartwatch
to be a bit compact and
convenient then you’ll love
this one. The straps are also
very good quality and feel
comfortable on the wrist. Also,
the royal Blue colour look so
gorgeous on the wrist as well.
Also, it consists of a
42.75mm case, which is an
ideal fit for all wrist sizes.
Smart Pro features two buttons
on the side with massive
bezels. You have to press
the lower one for about 3-4
seconds and the screen will
appear. The watch is may be
smaller than the other ones,
but it does offer customization
to the users. It features the
basic 22mm replaceable
silicone straps, which you can
replace with your favourite
and personalized ones. The
watch is also water-resistant
to 5ATM, so you may wear it to
your swimming classes without
being worried!
Display
The Titan Smart Pro has a
1.19-inch AMOLED touch
display with an amazing
390 x 390-pixel resolution.
It is bright enough for you
to see what’s happening on
the screen pretty well. The
display’s touch responsiveness
is also very smooth, and I
didn’t notice any latency while
browsing through the watch’s
functions. The front of the
screen is in the protection by
2.5D curved glass and Gorilla
Glass 3, so you can wear it
anywhere without worrying too
muchComing to the screen
customization, it impressed me
really well. It comes with over
100 watch faces to choose
from to match your personal
taste. You can switch to any of
the faces or can keep the ones,
already in-built into it.
Furthermore, Titan Smart
Pro’s AMOLED display is
clearly one of the device’s
strengths, and it is easily
visible in direct sunlight. You
may manually change the
watch’s brightness, and you
can set it to life-to-wake or
utilize the Always-on display
option to keep the screen on all
the time.
Features
Now, the Smart Pro is actually
a “Pro” variant when it comes
to features. It offers everything
more on the plate. It has more
sensors and health features.
Like the watch includes a
body temperature feature.
How interesting is it! You can
actually keep a track of your
body temperature throughout
the day wearing this on
your wrist. It has an in-built
Barometer as well, so you can
check the height and altitudes
while hiking. Also, for the
trekking enthusiasts, it entails
a compass as well. These are
some unique features you
can’t easily find on budget
smartwatches. So, when it
comes to features it is loaded
with many! However, the list
doesn’t end here.
It also features SpO2
monitoring and heart rate
monitoring so you
easily monitor all
the saturations,
accurately. And,
one of the most
important
features
of this
smartwatch-
has an In-built GPS
and it works accurately as
well. Yes, you heard it right!
So, a big thumbs up for that as
many other brands don’t offer
it. With that, Titan Smart Pro
also offers many sports tracking
like Hiking, indoor and outdoor
cycling, rowing machines, trail
APRIL 2022 | 35

running, exercise, and more. It has a total
of 14 sports mentioned on the screen.
Furthermore, Smart Pro offers Sleep
tracking and stress to its user. Again,
the watch’s sleep monitoring was fairly
accurate, with separate monitoring for
deep and light sleep separately. The
Titan Smart Pro also contains a stress
monitoring feature that calculates an
average score based on how much stress
you have over time. Stress monitoring is a
useful tool, at least for me!
Another interesting feature I noticed
on the smartwatch is that one can also
set reminders for breathing and hand
washing using the smartwatch. So, with
stress monitoring, you also have the
solution as well. Other features include
weather monitoring and you can also
manage the camera on your smartphone.
You can also control the music playback
on your phone, using the smartwatch.
The watch is pretty good to establish
daily fitness goals and reviewing your
activity history on a regular basis. The
Titan Smart Pro boasts a lot of useful
smartwatch functions, but the lack of
calling capabilities was a significant let
down. The Smart Pro does get call alerts,
which you may refuse or quiet directly
from the watch. Clearly, The Titan Smart
Pro did not disappoint in terms of
features.
Battery
The Titan Smart Pro says
that it has a battery life
of up to 14 days on a
single charge. Really
superb! Generally, even
if you invest in good
smartwatches, they
only last you up to
4-5 days, in terms of
battery. However, this
one goes beyond
expectations.
It flaunts a
260mAh
battery, which is quite long-lasting
considering this is a smartwatch. With
normal usage and on a single charge,
I was able to get closer to 12 days of
battery life, which is amazing in and of
itself. Turning on the Always-on display
and boosting the brightness to the
maximum, on the other hand, will deplete
the battery far more quickly. However,
you do get a magnetic charging pad that
charges the smartwatch really fast.
Software
The Titan Smart Pro also comes with its
companion app- Smart Pro App. The
software can track your physical activities
and measure your heart rate and oxygen
saturation levels, among other things.
You only have to connect the smartwatch
to your phone’s Bluetooth and use it
conveniently. The software also allows
you to track your temperature, sleep,
and stress levels. The Settings tab of the
app allows you
access to the
watch’s various
capabilities, such as alerts,
daily objectives, hand washing
reminders, and more.
Also, the app is highly compatible with
both Android and iOS systems. Though I
have an iPhone SE, still it got connected
very quick and was very easy to control
as well.
Controls
Two buttons are located on the side of
the Titan Smart Pro. The top button gives
you access to the watch’s functionalities,
while the bottom button allows you to
choose from 14 different activities. The
fast settings menu is accessed by swiping
up from the top of the watch, while alerts
are accessed by swiping down from the
bottom. Some watch capabilities, like
music playback, can also be accessed by
swapping left or right.
Verdict
The Titan Smart Pro is a great fitness
watch with a lot of features that can
compete with smartwatches from Xiaomi,
Realme, OnePlus, Amazfit, and a lot of
other brands. Temperature monitoring,
a barometer, and period tracking are
among the Smart Pro’s distinctive
features. These are also some
unique features making it
a Pro for real. The watch
also has precise GPS
tracking, a vivid and
bright AMOLED
display, a sturdy
build, and long
battery life. The
only thing I missed on
this stunner is the answering
system for the calls.
Although this is a personal taste,
however, I really enjoyed the compact
size of the watch. A stainless-steel casing
would have also given it a more quality
feel, but that is unusual at this price.
Also, the glass you get on this one does
feel premium and great. The Titan Smart
Pro excels in many areas, and while it
lacks a few functionalities, it makes up
for it with a slew of other features. Titan
Smart Pro is a solid smartwatch from
a seasoned Indian manufacturer that
deserves a recommendation due to its
diverse set of functions. n

Users can also add the ‘Take me home’
complication to their Watch, and tap it to
start navigating home on
Google Maps.
Google Maps is also
integrating directly into
iOS Spotlight, Siri, and the
Shortcuts app. Once you’ve set
up the shortcuts, just say “Hey Siri,
get directions” or “Hey Siri, search in
Google Maps” to access Google Maps’
helpful information instantly. This feature

the government, agriculture
sector in India is moving on the
path of modernisation. To help
farmersincreasetheirincome,government

by infusing new technologies. A five-year
(2021-2025) digital agriculture mission
has also been initiated by government for
projects based on new technologies such
as artificial intelligence (AI), block chain,
remote sensing and GIS technology, use of
drones and robots etc.
Digital agriculture
Digital agriculture, says Narendra Singh
Rathore,vice-chancellor,MaharanaPratap
University of Agriculture and Technology
(MPUAT), Udaipur, is a step forward for
use of information and communication
technologies (ICT) for increasing
production, productivity and profitability
at farmers end based on continuous
monitoring and forecasting of crop in field
conditions.
Ram Narayan Ghatak, chief executive
officer (CEO), Indigram Labs Foundation
defines the digital agriculture as use of
technology with all its equipment, devices
and information networks in managing
agricultureandfoodproductionandsupply
systems.
It has been observed
that increased access
to information
through smartphones
has positively
affected the adoption
of advanced
agricultural
technologies among
Indian farmers.

Such equipment and devices are often
integrated with cutting-edge technology
applications like Artificial Intelligence
(AI), Machine Learning (ML), Internet of
Things (IoT) and block chain technologies
to automate operations, perform repetitive
tasks with precision, track movement of
food items, food quality management,
promote precision agriculture, enhance
farm and animal productivity and many
more.
“Examplesincludesatelliteimagingand
remote sensing for assessing conditions of
standing crops, e-commerce platforms
facilitating agri-commodity aggregation
and connecting farmers to distant markets
and buyers, dissemination of agricultural
extension services and information over
digital networks, warehouse receipt
financing, block chain-enabled food
traceability systems, rental apps for high-
value farm machines/implements, and so
on,” says Ghatak.
Invasion of technology at
grassroots level

of advanced agricultural technologies
among Indian farmers. “With an increased

technology penetration in the agriculture,
Ghatak believes that there would be
northward trend in adoption of technology
in this field because of government’s
support in the form of creation of the
AgriStack with Unified Farmer Service
Interface.
“Startups are now using devices like
IoT sensors, satellite information and
GIS mapping for remote control of farms,
design customized production systems
for niche markets and exports. Monitoring
movement of food items with RFID trucks,
new-age packaging solutions and online
aggregation platforms promoting super-
efficient supply chains,” says Ghatak
Farmers’ response to
agriculture apps
On farmers’ response to agriculture
apps, Rathore says that those who are
equipped with the smartphone and digital
technologies are excited and eager to
use and reap its benefit. However, their
financial conditions are not supporting for
its quick adoption.
“Realising the benefits of using such

informs Ghatak.
Revolution
in Indian
agriculture
through apps
On significance of apps in
revolutionising the Indian
agriculture sector, Rathore
and Ghatak are almost on
the same page.
Yes, in future it will, says
Rathore. However in present

with timely information and advice. “This
not only helpful in natural resources
management but also help in accelerating
rate of development on productivity in the

vice-chancellor.
Thankstoarrivalofappstherearemany
examples of transformational changes
happening all across agriculture.
“As we all know, there are many
subscription-based or order-booking
apps which supply fresh and high-value
perishable food items like fresh fruits and
green vegetables, meat, fish etc. Most of
these apps aggregate the demand with
pre-booking of items, and therefore, they
know the exact requirement of quantity,
variety,andlocationsofsuchdemand.The
information helps them to plan quantity
and time of harvesting/procurement from
the farmers, squeeze time required to
reach the items from harvest points to
consumers’ doorsteps. They only need to
sourcethequantityandqualitydemanded,
andtherefore,couldavoidwastagecaused
by over-supply, wilting and other quality
deterioration due to multiple handling,”
explains Indigram Labs Foundation CEO.
Further, e-commerce
and aggregation apps are helping
the farmers in commodity aggregation
for connecting with distant buyers and
processors.Likewise,manyappspromoting
farm mechanisation like never before by
‘uberising’ rental services of high-value
farm machinery/equipment by adopting
affordable subscription-based models or
rental services basis per hour of use.
Apps meant for animal care and
veterinary services are bringing down costs
of such services at affordable levels and
are helping the farmers engaged in dairy,
fishery poultry etc. in better monitoring
of health and care of animals and birds,

productivity.

technologies,” informs Rathore.
Getting advance information related to
changes in climate I. e. temperature, air
flow rate, humidity and rainfall etc help in
deciding strategies for protection of crops
due to natural calamities etc.
Someofthelatesttechnologiesinclude
AI, ML, IoT enabled devices for remote
controloffarms;precisionagriculturewhere
temperature,
humidity, lighting, air etc. are controlled to
produce desired qualities of food products
throughout the year without bothering
on weather or seasonal changes; use of
drones for monitoring crop health, foliar
application of fertilisation, pest control;
traceability for monitoring movement of
food items; mobile applications for quality
checking of food products, block chain
technologies for quality management; etc.
Advantages of agri apps
“Availability of apps, according to Rathore
helps farmers get information such as
what to do, how to do, how to simplify and
conveniently mild up and how to increase
efficiency and reduce losses,” informs
Rathore.
On how rapid growth of mobile
telephony and the introduction of
mobile-enabled information
services, has impacted
farmer, Ghatak says that
apps help in integrating
surplus production
regions to deficit
consumption centres,
could reduce cost of
services to a fraction by
enabling use by millions,
customisation of services
and extension outreach
are some of the benefits of the
agriculture apps in India.
Key challenges of Indian
agri-tech sector
Thekeychallengeswouldtypicallyinclude
limited ability of the farmers to pay for
products and services. This essentially
means that every product and service
developed will have to fit the farmer’s
wallet. Similarly, small land holding plots
restrict use of large machinery in farm
operations.Machinery/equipmenttargeted
for individual farmer will have to fit for
operations in smaller plots besides being
low-cost. The other set of issues comes
from the fact that farmers mostly because
oftheirprecariouseconomiccondition,are
normally extremely risk-averse lot, slow in
adoptinganythingnew,andconstantlyfear
being duped by unknown individuals and
entities – all these slow down the pace of
penetration by agri-tech companies.
“Inaddition,therearecertainecosystem
level several challenges like regulatory
ambiguitiesimpedingincubators’abilityto
raise funds for promising start-ups. Public
programs and schemes in agriculture are
not aligned to support agri-tech start-ups
in their efforts to help the farmers improve
their farm productivity and income.
Government support systems to start-ups
beyond seed funding is weak,” highlights
Ghatak. n

What kind of consumer base does CardByte
target? CardByte is a smart wallet for
business cards; anyone possessing or
exchanging business cards is a part of
our consumer base. However, it has been
proven most useful for industries and
