Units of Inquiry<br />In Grade 2 we cover four Units of Inquiry.<br />1). Interconnectedness <br />Essential Questions<br /><ul><li>How are living things connected?
Why do living things look different?</li></ul>Understanding <br /> Ecosystems can help us to understand that organisms and their environments are interconnected.<br />Vocabulary Words - Connections, responsibility, habitats, food web, food chain, features, behaviors, survive, local environment, protect, interconnected <br />2). Time3). Discovery 4). Celebration<br />
Being Numerate<br />Everyday Math program. <br /><ul><li>Each child has a workbook.
We also use supplementary resources to enhance student learning and for differentiation.
In Grade 2 we use small group activities to teach the various mathematical concepts.
Every week, a lesson is set aside specifically for the development of basic facts from 1 20 in addition and subtraction.
ICT is also used to help develop numeracy skills.</li></li></ul><li>Being Literate<br />Reading<br />Writing - specifically linked with the unit of inquiry being studied.<br /> Organization – planning and sequencing of ideas<br /> Sentence structure – Grammar, word choice, sentence variety, Paragraphs <br /> Mechanics – Spelling, capitalization, punctuation <br />Oral Language<br />Spelling<br /> There will be no spelling homework.<br /> Children will have spelling twice a week for a 45 min block<br /> The lessons will be activities based around teaching children strategies to help them spell and read words independently.<br />Handwriting - The basic writing skills will also be taught in D’Nelian.<br />
