  1. 1. INCREDIBLE!!!INCREDIBLE!!!WE TEACHTHINKING!!!
  2. 2. Benefits for schools, teachers, parentsTHE CHEST OFSECRETS
  3. 3. We wroteThe Chest of Secrets because…Most of small children talk using single words or build veryshort sentences. If they make attempts to tell a story, their speech is rarelycoherent. Some children are afraid of reading, they learn short texts byheart, or make guesses. In situations of conflict they tell on each other, fight, offendeach other and cry.In a conflict situation, while looking for solutions, they cantsee any or find only one solution.Working in a group is difficult for children. Some children canteven work in pairs.
  4. 4. We wroteThe Chest of Secrets because…to speak using simple sentences and not single wordsto speak in a logical and coherent waynot to be afraid of readingto be able to predict consequences of their and other peoplesbehaviorto look for several solutions while facing a conflict situationto be able to work in pairs and small groupsto be brave and self-reliantWe want childrenWe want children

  9. 9. Why The Chest of Secrets?Five stories with introduction in which children meet the maincharacter called Julka.MagnifierDrawingButtonCardGlassThe stories are specially prepared to work with the use of threetools: branch, cloud, tree.By using the TOC tools, teacher only moderates a situation. It is the first package (proposal), that teaches step by step howto use the tools (even a teacher with a little experience inusing TOC tools can feel safe).
  10. 10. Why do the stories with card, glass,magnifier...help children?Objects which are related to thestories, seemingly meaninglessfor adults, have tremendousvalue for children.Children unlike adults, are notpragmatic. When they becomelike that, it means they grow up.
  11. 11. Why do the stories with card, glass,magnifier...help children? The real ‘problems of children’:• taking other people’s thingswithout asking,• mess in the room,• fear of a dangerous dog,• collecting things and envy,• dissagreements with peers andadults.
  12. 12. Children learn about the toolsstructure
  13. 13. Children learn to decode (read)the story from pictures andpictograms.Encoding and Decoding
  14. 14. By introduction of wordless writing (pictograms, schematic drawings, emoticons) children obtain theability to read single words and sentences morequickly.Encoding and Decoding
  15. 15. Why pictograms?
  16. 16. Children identify emotions of the characters in the story.Children identify and name their own emotions. If I takesomebody’sthing. If the fact I tooksomebody’s thingis revealed. If somebodytakes mything. Why emoticons?
  17. 17. • Children analyze the conflict. They think what emotions occurin the first phase of the conflict. They present the mood with anemoticon and a dark blue cloud. How to distinguish demand from need ?• Children talk to each other. They talk about their needs andassign a prop to the situation (abright blue cloud and anemoticon).
  18. 18. Picture analysis of the conflict
  19. 19. At first, children work inpairs, and later on they startworking in larger groups. What can do a note?
  20. 20. By using the sun of solutions, children notice that eachproblem has a few possible solutions.Creative proposals of the solutions.
  21. 21. Thanks to a graphicpresentation of thetools, children ”see”their thoughts(consequences). Can one see thinking?
  22. 22. They justify their choices in a logical and clear way.Creative argumentation
  23. 23. With the help of the ambitious target tree they can planand join up to help organizing a Christmas party, a tripor a museum outing…Small children– Great planning
  24. 24. Thanks to a practical application of the TOC tools children become ”tutors” for theirparents, teaching them how to use the tools in adult life. The Chest of Secrets - parentsChildren’s cards Parent’s cards
  25. 25. Education Through Movement
  26. 26. Worksheets = instructionsThanks to a graphicpresentation of the tools,children ”see” their thoughts(consequences).e.g. If I see a dangerous dog,then…

  31. 31. Children discipline adultsWhen we get a chance to take the role of the teacher, webuild self-esteem, develop self-reliance and willingness totake initiative and act. This lets YOU "see" our thinking.Children make adults perceive problems from theirperspective. The degree of difficulty is reflected (fromsimple games and activities to more complex ones).
