going to throw some paper planes around the room…
• You will be given a sheet of A4 paper.
• On this sheet ……
• Write your name
• Your favourite food
• A hobby or interest
• Something that we don’t know about you
• Then fold the sheet of paper into your best airplane.
• When we are all ready, we will commence throwing the airplanes
round the room (not at each other)
• Pick up whichever plane is nearest and introduce the person on
that plane.
12. HOPES & FEARS
Each person is to take 2 sticky notes
On your 1st sticky note, write a hope (about

been in a group with, or that you do not know yet.
You have 5 minutes in your groups to name all of
the seven dwarves
You must not use your mobile
phones/computers
16. GROUP RULES
To make sure that everyone is happy, comfortable and able to learn, we need to
decide on some standards or rules that we are going to stick to during this course.
Task: In groups of 3 (swap groups) write a list of ground rules that you would like
everyone (including yourself) to adhere to for the next 7 weeks
Each team will have the opportunity to share their ideas and then negotiate with
other teams if they would like to keep/abolish their proposed rules
If you do want to get rid of a rule then you MUST explain why and if it needs
voting on then you can vote to keep or abolish
eg) “no throwing chairs at your tutor!”
Now create a group rules list.
Tutor will type up the agreed list and you will sign this document (it’s a contract)
(more on contracts during this course)
17. ROAD MAP ACTIVITY
Task: Individually you are going to design, make & talk about a life
road map
You can draw pictures to represent different parts of your life, or you
can write out the words.
Start from your early years and make your way up
to present day / to future . Don’t include anything you aren’t
comfortable talking about.
If you don’t want to do the Road Map activity then you can write
4 true things and 2 false things about yourself – You will share
these things later
**ask if you are not sure about anything.
