What Is JARC? <ul><li>Grants to improve transportation to: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Jobs </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Employment support </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Job-specific training programs </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Targets welfare recipients and eligible low income individuals </li></ul><ul><li>Available Funds Federal Fiscal Year 07 = $ 287,950 </li></ul>

What is New Freedom? <ul><li>Targets individuals with disabilities </li></ul><ul><li>Grants for transportation enhancements beyond requirements of the ADA </li></ul><ul><li>Goal: connect people with disabilities to the community and employment </li></ul><ul><li>Must be new service (not operational on or before August 10, 2005) </li></ul><ul><li>Available Funds Federal Fiscal Year 07 = $ 181,911 </li></ul>

Competitive Selection Process <ul><li>Application Due Tuesday, October 14, 2008, 4:00 PM </li></ul><ul><ul><li>If mailed, postmarked no later than Friday, October 10, 2008 </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Project meets an identified need from the Public Transit-Human Services Transportation Coordination Plan http://docs.mvrpc.org/hstc/hstc_plan_reg.pdf </li></ul><ul><li>Score based on data in Project Narrative </li></ul><ul><li>Coordination among agencies will be a major consideration </li></ul>

Tips for Successful Applications <ul><li>Look for partners: these programs reward coordination/collaboration </li></ul><ul><li>Become active in your county’s Coordination Council </li></ul><ul><li>Identify the specific page number(s) in the Coordination Plan that best justify your project </li></ul><ul><li>Do not propose projects that duplicate existing service; look for a unique unmet need </li></ul>
