Achievements under AYUSH medical education during 2008-09 up to 31-03- 2009 Source: Dir. of AYUSH, Govt. of Karnataka <ul><li>Government has given administrative approval for third phase building for Government Unani Medical college at a cost of Rs. 1.70 crores. </li></ul><ul><li>To provide Hostel accommodation to students of Govt. Ayurvedic Medical College, Mysore . the Govt. has given administrative approval for Rs.60.00 lakhs. </li></ul><ul><li>Government have sanctioned two P.G. course in the subject of Roganidhana and Rasashastra at Govt. Ay. Medical College, Bangalore </li></ul><ul><li>Govt. has sanctioned increase of beds strength from 100 to 150 beds at Taranath Govt. Ay. Medical College and Hospital at Bellary. </li></ul>
  15. 15. <ul><li>To start one Government Ayurvedic Medical College at Shimoga. </li></ul><ul><li>Increasing 100 to 150 bed strength at Taranatha Govt. Ayurvedic Medical College, Bellary. </li></ul><ul><li>To construct a building for Anatomy and Library wing at Govt. Ayurvedic Medical College, Bangalore . </li></ul><ul><li>To construct a 100 bedded Hi-tech Panchakarma Hospital at GAMC., Mysore in the memory of Centenary Program of the college for completing 100 years. Administrative Recommendations <ul><li>Establish a separate Directorate for Homoeopathy </li></ul><ul><li>Appoint advisor on homeopathy to the State Planning Commission </li></ul><ul><li>Constitute a cell in the AYUSH Directorate to disseminate information on various Extra Mural and Institutional schemes that are promoted by Dept of AYUSH, Govt of India </li></ul><ul><li>Provide financial and administrative parity to homeopathic doctors in government service on the scale of doctors in health / medical education services </li></ul>

Academic Recommendations <ul><li>Upgrade private colleges that are existing for more than twenty years, as model colleges by supporting them with financial grants to cover teachers’ salaries / internee stipend and for equipment / library / laboratory </li></ul><ul><li>Strengthen the PG dept in Govt. Homoeopathic Medical College, Bangalore by creating separate cadre of PG faculty </li></ul><ul><li>Start one more govt. college, preferably at a centrally located place (like Davanagere) </li></ul><ul><li>Provide incentives to teachers who undergo professional development in the form of attending RoTP, CME, additional qualifications, etc. </li></ul>

Clinical Recommendations <ul><li>Establish footprints of homeopathy clinical services across the state by introducing at least one homeopathic unit in each taluk </li></ul><ul><li>Increase the accessibility of Homoeopathy across the state through the mainstreaming AYUSH under NRHM  </li></ul><ul><li>Introduce Homoeopathic OPD and in-patient wings to Taluk Hospitals, Community Health Centres, and in all the Specialty Hospitals </li></ul><ul><li>Allot at least ten bedsin all the 29 District Hospitals </li></ul>

Public Health Recommendations <ul><li>Mainstream homeopathy in the the RCH 2 </li></ul><ul><li>Sensitise the grassroot performers like ASHA workforce , Rogi Kalyan Samitis and VH & SCs on the one hand and Monitoring and Controlling personnel like DPMOs and PRI personnel on the role of homeopathy in healthcare services  </li></ul><ul><li>Introduce homeopathy into Mobile Medical Units and into the First stage Referral Units </li></ul><ul><li>Establish a Homeopathic Epidemic Response Cell </li></ul><ul><li>Train Community Health Volunteers / Assistants in homeopathy </li></ul><ul><li>Popularise homeopathy through public communication channels </li></ul>

Research Recommendations <ul><li>Start a homeopathy research hub for developing knowledge repository on clinical and academic competencies of homeopathy </li></ul><ul><li>Encourage collaborative research programs with Homeopathy in key clinical and public health areas e.g. Diabetes, Mental health, MDR Koch. These can be carried out in Govt institutions so that the clinical expertise of Allopathic physicians is available   </li></ul>
  23. 23. Immediate action sought for <ul><li>One homoeopathic dispensary in all 224 taluks </li></ul><ul><li>Nominate advisor to homoeopathy in Planning Commission </li></ul><ul><li>Start PG at the existing Govt. Homoeopathy College at Bangalore by starting a separate PG teacher cadre </li></ul>
