1. 1. Chemistry and Biochemistry in Lublin in cooperation with TIHO

We started to implement Casus in order to stimulate learning, t o show the integration of knowledge, and lifelong learning skills, all of which are requirements for veterinary education.

We carefully selected questions to provoke deep student learning by the acquisition of both basic scientific and clinical knowledge; cultivate problem-solving abilities; self-directed learning, communication, and self-assessment skills.

 2. 2. The aim

to evaluate if new teaching methods apart from classic lectures and laboratory classes may improve teaching and studying chemistry

 3. 3. Methods - chemistry:

First survey containing questions about currently available teaching material

C asus based virtual problem containing 22 activ e questions on polysaccharides

Second survey containing questions about new teaching tools

 4. 4. Results

107 out of 150 students answered the first survey. Majority of them would expect new teaching tools in chemistry

35 out of 50 students entered C asus , 24 worked through the whole case . They got better grades in chemistry exam.

31 answered the second survey. Majority evaluated positively new tools

 5. 5. Casus – examples of cards
 6. 7. Methods - biochemistry:

C asus based on virtual problems related to Aminoacids and Enzymes

Survey containing questions about new teaching material

 7. 8. Results

70 out of 150 entered CASUS

29 out of 70 answered survey

More than 80% evaluated new teaching materials as clear, understandable and necessary for learning biochemistry

 8. 9.

Dziękuje za uwagę

 9. 12. Conclusions

It is possible to use Casus in veterinary chemistry

It need s some further adaptation based on students’ needs, e.g.

more case-based

ranges of difficulty

preparation for practicals

 10. 13.

Thank you for your attention
