  • “ Research has found that smart phones are affecting productivity, communication in the work place, social engagement, and have an effect in education”. Smartphones affecting our society today is a good thing. It is very convenient and we are now always connected to one other through this type of technology. Since the invention of Smartphones we have had increase in productivity and communication in the workplace, positive social engagement
  • “ Smartphones are digital wireless phones that can send and receive voice, data and video as well as storing information and running software.” A Smartphone has almost the same features as a computer provides. They combine the functions of a camera phone and a personal digital assistant (P.D.A) The mobile phone/ cell phone is a portable electronic device portable “used for mobile voice or data communication over a network of specialized base stations known as cell sites”. However the Smartphone combines voice services with e-mails, fax and internet access etc. Smartphone features include internet connection for web and e-mail access, 3G, digital mp3 player, built in digital camera, Bluetooth headset, GPS navigation system, SMS, MMS, MSN messengers are also essential. A Smartphone also includes a Calendar, address book , wireless connectivity and synchronization activities. Smartphones are powered by operating systems which are software programs that control and run other programs on the phone. E.g. Symbian
  • Smartphones are available everywhere in the world today, with the most Smartphone usage in Italy. Examples of Smartphones are : Motorola Droid X, HTC Evo, Apple iPhone4, Samsung Galaxy S 4G.
  • Smartphones affect productivity in a positive way. According to statistics, 75% of South African companies have incorporated Smartphones within their organizations compared to none 2 years ago.
