Considered the widespread sensitivity to the issue of sustainable tourism nowadays the Master in Tourism Management started a research project aimed at spreading a "sustainable" culture in tourism. This is the II dossier about Tourism and Sustainability carried out by Master students regarding the currency of basic sustainable tourism principles in 17 European countries (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Holland, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, UK).
The research demonstrates that all the countries in the sample has acquired sustainable tourism cultures although the development of the latter in the single countries is not guided by specific national policies.
In most countries sustainable tourism develops bottom-up. The most highly developed countries from the point of view of tourism appear to be the most resilient to the principles of sustainability.
