Local Food Advantages

 1. 1. Local Food Advantages By: Jazmine Dillard, Juliana Fisher, Maya Goudeau, Raiyah Harris, & Julian Oliva
 2. 2. Mike said…

Local food supply helped support farmers.

Better convenience of having food grown closer and it being more fresh for market.

There is a better variety of produce that is healthier for consumers.

 3. 3. This is kind of fishy…

Fishes are farm raised and it is now easier to keep up with demand for fresh sea food.

Fish such as Sturgeon that are usually captured in the wild, are now raised locally in Sacramento, thus allowing the wild Sturgeon population to flourish without being endangered as a result from over fishing.

 4. 4. Till the cows come home…

Healthier variety of dairy

Cheese is fresh and stays fresh as it is transferred from Sacramento

Has fine quality and may spoil quicker than cheese with preservatives, but it is better in taste when not spoiled.

 5. 5. I’m a lean, mean fighting machine . . . Okay, not really, I’m a cow, but I’m still lean.

Rathen Ranch’s beef is all lean and grass fed as opposed to cows that are confided with hundreds of other cows and only being fed corn, which adds fat to the beef giving it no nutritional value what so ever.

Cows are humanly slaughtered at reasonable ages and these ranches are a family owned business and spread over 2/3s of California and Oregon.

 6. 6. You Could Call Me Betty Crocker! ( Please don’t though)

Lagier Ranches produce hand made fresh pies.

They aren’t preserved they are also healthier

Get supplies about a hour and a half east, towards Yosemite.

 7. 7. “ I’m working with some unstable Herbs!”

This lady gave us very interesting info about the herbs she was selling.

The herbs that she was selling were naturally grown and contained no pesticides.

She also told us that it was more convenient that she was able to get her herbs within a hundred mile radius and that the herbs were very healthy and fresh as opposed to receiving them from across the nation or the world for that matter and them being not as good.

 8. 8. This Adds Up To. . .

We see that having food grown closely to you has many pros and very few cons.

Not only is the food healthier, it also creates job opportunities for people to work at these places

The only con that we could think is that it might be expensive at first, but eventually it will become cheaper if more consumers begin to buy, and dependencies on importing food and transportation cost will drop significantly.

 9. 9.

Thank you to all of the people who made this trip possible. 
