  2. 2. Environmental Responsibility  An aspect of good citizenship is the way we cared for the environment.  Earth’s resources are finite and there is concern about issues:  Global warming  Lack of sustainability of the current lifestyles of the majority of the earth’s inhabitants.

  4. 4. Boyan Slat  Boyan Slat (born 27 July 1994)  Is a Dutch inventor, entrepreneur and aerospace engineering student who works on methods of cleaning plastic waste from the ocean.  “Human history is basically a list of things that couldn’t be done and then were done.”

Explain Boyat Slat’s idea to clean up the ocean?  The Ocean Cleanup Array is an anchored network of floating booms and processing platforms will span the radius of a gyre.  The booms act as giant funnels where the angle of the booms effectively 'suck' rubbish in.  The debris enters the platforms, where it will be filtered out of the water and eventually stored in containers until collected for recycling on land.

Depth – 1. to collect deep waste - 2. to anchor 1. Most plastic is in the top 3 metres. 2. Mooring design is used as an anchor. Damaging the environment Marine life unlikely to be tangled – no nets. What is going to be done with the collected plastics? Plastic can be made into oil and recyclable material
