  5. 6. In class… <ul><li>Question  Raise your hand. Non-emergency questions must be communicated in target language. </li></ul><ul><li>Turning in work  This is done by column. Make sure everyone’s papers face the same way and are in nice, neat stacks. </li></ul><ul><li>During testing  There is absolutely no talking. More on this during testing days. </li></ul><ul><li>Off limits: my desk, any electronics, cabinets and the windows. If you need to borrow something (stapler etc.) or open a window, ASK ME. Otherwise no dice. </li></ul>
  6. 7. No food. No drink. No cell phone. <ul><li>Do you want to have your phone taken up until the end of the day? Do you want to pay $15 to get it back? </li></ul><ul><li>Do you want bugs in your stuff? </li></ul>
  7. 8. Regarding your workload <ul><li>Extra-curricular activities are your choice. Academic success is required by the school. </li></ul><ul><li>Homework in this class is minimal. Most assignments are due in class. Irrelevant talking is a sure path to low grades. Projects and tests will require preparation outside the classroom. </li></ul><ul><li>As you will see on next slide, you are responsible for your school supplies. If they are too heavy to lug around, GET A LOCKER. Use it. </li></ul>
  8. 9. MATERIALS: Every. Single. Day. <ul><li>Listed in your syllabus. Check them off as you get them. </li></ul><ul><li>3 dividers in your NDHS binder. </li></ul><ul><li>A dictionary to English. The bigger, the better. </li></ul><ul><li>Pens and pencils, college ruled paper </li></ul><ul><li>Your textbook </li></ul><ul><ul><li>TEXTBOOKS ARE NOT DISTRIBUTED IN THIS CLASS. You will be given a code to access your textbook online. There is a library at your service for anyone with faulty or non-existent internet access. Textbooks can be CHECKED OUT BY THE TEACHER for those with extenuating circumstances. If they are lost, you will be forced (not by me) to pay for them. They are extremely expensive. </li></ul></ul>

What’s a typical day in this class like? <ul><li>Daily activities will be written out on the board in detail before you arrive. </li></ul><ul><li>Notes/Lecture (simultaneous): I explain what you need to know. In your binder, you copy the notes that I show (mostly ppt). Questions encouraged throughout lecture. </li></ul><ul><li>Guided practice: I give you the assignment and help with any confusion. </li></ul><ul><li>You do the assignment, notes allowed. Classmates may help sometimes but all written work is individual (see syllabus) </li></ul><ul><li>We grade the assignment in class and you turn it in. </li></ul>
  11. 12. Please Recycle <ul><li>All paper can go in the recycling box </li></ul><ul><li>Everything else in the trash </li></ul><ul><li>NOTHING in your desk or on the floor. </li></ul>
  12. 13. The most important part of this class: <ul><li> </li></ul><ul><li>Notes, assignments, online activities, textbook codes, syllabus, announcements, explanations, due dates, helpful hints, teacher email, additional resources, + more. </li></ul>
  13. 14. Also important: <ul><li>Parent Portal </li></ul><ul><li>Tell your parents to get signed up for this by calling the main office at 972)925-1500. It’s like being able to look in a teacher’s gradebook. </li></ul>
