  1. 1. Introduction to Commerce (Year 9) Introduction to Commerce is designed to give students exposure to the skills and activities relevant to effective management of their life as a consumer. There are four main topics.
  2. 2. Being a wise consumer <ul><li>Students will develop an understanding of the factors affecting consumer decisions, traps consumers fall into, and consumer rights and responsibilities, particularly that result from the Trade Practices Act </li></ul>
  3. 3. Money, Credit and Personal Resource Management <ul><li>The functions and characteristics of money (currency) </li></ul><ul><li>the role and types of credit in our economy </li></ul><ul><li>strategies for effective management of personal financial resources. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Government and how laws are made <ul><li>We will investigate the role of government, how governments are elected and the process of Law making. </li></ul>
  5. 5. The world of work <ul><li>investigate the rights and responsibilities of employees </li></ul><ul><li>examine the process involved in applying for a job. </li></ul><ul><li>Students will also undertake a detailed study of one potential career that is of interest to them. </li></ul>
  6. 6. In a nutshell . . . <ul><li>As a subject, Commerce is about life skills and this elective tries to equip students with an understanding of some of these, and strategies to cope effectively with day to day living. </li></ul>
