Overfishing

  1. 1. If we continue to overfish and pullute the seas me might not have any fish left in the sea by Overfishing and other Problems 2048
  2. 2. Overfishing when we catch too many fish. the fish don’t have time to reproduce. The fish get fewer and fewer, until finally there are none to catch 52% of fish stocks are fully exploited 20% are moderately exploited 17% are overexploited 7% are depleted 1% is recovering from depletion
  3. 3. Fish Population 100% 80% 60% 40% 20% 0% 1951 1956 1961 1966 1971 1976 1981 1986 1991 1996 Undeveloped Developing Fully exploited Overfished Collapsed Over the years more and more fish are being caught due to the growing population of humans. Slowly the fish will disapear from the seas forever
  4. 4. Bluefin Tuna This fish is considered to be the most delicious of sushi due to over fishing only 6-12% of this species remain.
  5. 5. Bycatch unwanted marine creatures that are caught in the nets while fishing for another species
  6. 6. For each pound of shrimp caught in a trawl net, an average of two to ten pounds of unwanted marine life is caught and discarded bycatch. Worldwide, fisheries throw away 25% of their catch About 1 in 4 animals get thrown away as bycatch. If we could just catch only what we want we could save a lot of marine animals
  7. 7. Catching Fish Different sorts of fishing are good and bad in different ways some are better than others. Such as harpooning because you can choose what fish to harpoon.
  8. 8. Ways of catching fish The first way if the gill net in is a bad choice because sharks , turtles and other marine creatures can get stuck in the net. The second is hook and line it is good because the fish are reeled in right away and you can release unwanted fish. The last is dredging it is bad because the metal cage will drag up coral and bottom feeders.
  9. 9. Aquaculture Nowadays fish are formed just like ordinary sheep and cattle but different locations and types of fish effect the surrounding area differently.
  10. 10. Examples of healthy ecosystems
  11. 11. Eat fish twice/week! Choose omnivores like carp &tapia! By: Win & Forge
