Digestion System • Takes in material needed by body and breaks it down into a form your body can use. • Body uses this form to grow, repair and carry our life processes. • Body cant function properly without constant supply of substance. • Good breakfast restores material used while you sleep.
  2. 2. Break Down of Food in Two Ways • 1) Mechanical Digestion: tearing crushing and mashing of food. • 2) Chemical Digestion: enzymes help break down food into nutrients
  3. 3. Organs of Digestion System • Liver: Produces Bile to digest fat and stores nutrients and break down harmful substances in blood • Gallbladder: stores bile until needed in small intestines. • Pancreas: produces enzymes that neutralize stomach acid in small intestines.
  4. 4. Process Of Digestion • Mouth- Mechanical digestion • Esophagus- moist food passes through to stomach • Stomach- squeezes and contracts • Small Intestines- most digestion takes place here, Villa pass food into blod • Large Intestinesmaterials not absorb into blood are passed here and stored as solid waste until it leaves body.
  5. 5. Circulatory System • Transports nutrients to the body • Made up of blood, heart, and blood vessels.
  6. 6. HEART • Muscular organ the size of your fist • Beats 79 times a minute in adults • Moves blood to parts of the body
  7. 7. BLOOD • Consist of Red and white blood cells, platelets and plasma • Plasma- liquid part of blood, picks up waste • Capillaries- smallest blood vessels in your body, very narrow, blood leaves and flows to veins. • Veins- larger vessels, carry blood TO heart • Arteries- carries blood AWAY from heart
  8. 8. Respiratory System • Includes Lungs, nose, trachea, bronchial tubes and alveoli • Takes in oxygen from air and releases carbon dioxide. • Alveoli- tiny sacs, covered with capillaries.
