How long does a piece of popcorn take to pop? <ul><li>Your task is to pop three different pieces of popcorn and determine how long it takes in second to pop a piece of popcorn </li></ul><ul><li>You will need </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Heating equipment (Bunsen burner, heatproof mat, tripod, tripod) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Three random pieces of popcorn </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Aluminium foil </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Oil </li></ul></ul>

Method <ul><li>Place a few drops of oil on your aluminium foil and gently heat it using the purple bunsen flame </li></ul><ul><li>When the oil appears hot place your popcorn in AND start the timer </li></ul><ul><li>Repeat this at least three times and record the values (give the date to me at the front to record on excel) </li></ul><ul><li>Write up your experiment, including a conclusion. </li></ul>

Conclusion <ul><li>What did you notice about the time taken for a piece of popcorn to pop? </li></ul><ul><li>Can you predict when a piece will pop? </li></ul><ul><li>Compare your values with the rest of the class. </li></ul><ul><li>Why else is there uncertainty? </li></ul><ul><li>Relate this to when you heard the clicks from the GM tube when we looked at the sources. </li></ul>
