Mackenzies power point

1. 1. Earth Quake Data

By:

Mackenzie

2. 2. Part 3 Step 2 Question 2

What do you notice about the distribution of these earthquakes?

What I have noticed from looking at the spots where earth quakes hits is that they are distributed by the boundary lines.

3. 3. Part 3 Step 2 Question 3

How does the distribution of these earthquakes compare to others?

The distribution of these earthquakes compare to others because they are all near some same/different body of water. Also they are all in group like areas near the Convergent Boundaries ( the convergent boundaries are the red lines on the map).

4. 4. Part 3 Step 2 Question 5

What type of plate boundary is associated with earthquakes that have a magnitude of 7.0 or greater?

From what I see Earth quakes with the magnitude of 7.o (and greater) happen and occur by the red lines which is the Convergent Boundaries.

5. 5. Part 3 Step 3 Question 4

What Percentage of big earthquakes occur within 100 miles of a convergent plate boundary?

613 out 1286 of 48% of big earthquakes occur within 100 miles of convergent plate boundaries.

6. 6. Part 3 Step 3 Question

Q: What Percentage of big earthquakes occur within 200 miles of a convergent plate boundary?

A: 977 out of 1286 so that is 76% of big earthquakes occur within 200 miles of a convergent plate boundary.

7. 7. Earthquakes in the future Where they are overdue for an earth? Italy, Turkey, Greece, French Guiana, California, Norway, Mexico, Venezuela, London and Spain. Where are places in the future where earth quakes might occur in the future? Morocco, Chile, Saudi Arabia, West coast of south America, Russia, Guatemala, Cuba, China, India and New Zealand.
8. 8. New List: Ten Places New Technology: Scientists are always finding new ways but they have satellites that can detect earthquakes days and even weeks before they occur. Italy, Greece, Portugal, Mali, Poland, Portugal, Kenya, Austria, Ukraine, and Turkey
9. 9. I think that California is going to have the next earthquake!!
10. 10. Overall:

Overall I have learned that it is a very difficult and tedious work. But if you do everything right and get the right amount of information you can start to understand it. There are quite a few factors that influence earth quake predictions some are the technology that you are using. Also what area of the world you are looking at. Also some times you have to look at the weather to. Most of the large and/or significant earthquakes occur along the continental plate boundaries.
