  2. 2. What is a Virus? <ul><li>Viruses are particles of nucleic acid, protein, and in some cases lipids that can reproduce only by infecting living cells. </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>Viruses themselves have no fossil record, but it is quite possible that they have left traces in the history of life. </li></ul>

Infections/Cycles <ul><li>Lytic Infection~ In a lytic infection, a virus enters a cell, makes copies of itself, and causes the cell to burst. </li></ul><ul><li>Lysogenic Infection~ In a Lysogenic Infection, a virus embeds its DNA into the DNA of the host cell and is replicated along with the host cells DNA. </li></ul>
