  4. 4. PRESENT TENSE <ul><li>1. TO MAKE MOST VERBS SINGULAR ADD “S” or do nothing to the verb. </li></ul><ul><li>EX. Joey runs to the bus. </li></ul><ul><li>Franco cooks breakfast. </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>2. to make a verb that ends in “s”, “x”, “z”, “ch”, or “sh” singular, add “es”. </li></ul><ul><li>Ex. Amos watches the television. </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Lindsey washes the dishes </li></ul></ul></ul></ul></ul>
  6. 6. <ul><li>3. to make a verb that ends in a consonant and “y” singular, change the “y” to “i” and add “es”. </li></ul><ul><li>Ex. The baby cries in his bed. (cry) </li></ul>

  9. 9. <ul><li>1. For most verbs add “ed” </li></ul><ul><li>Ex. The police talked to the robbers. </li></ul>
  10. 10. <ul><li>2. When a short verb ends in a consonant, double the consonant and add “ed”. </li></ul><ul><li>Ex. Andy batted three times in the game. </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Bat-batted </li></ul></ul></ul></ul></ul>
  11. 11. <ul><li>3. When a verb ends in “e” drop the “e” and add “ed”. </li></ul><ul><li>Ex. We wasted a lot of time at the mall. </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Waste --- wasted </li></ul></ul></ul></ul></ul>
  12. 12. <ul><li>4. When a verb ends in a consonant and “y” , change the “y” to “i” and add “ed”. </li></ul><ul><li>Ex. Leslie tried to be first in every race. </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>TRY---TRIED </li></ul></ul></ul></ul></ul>

  14. 14. <ul><li>Use the basic form of the verb with the helping verb will or shall. </li></ul><ul><li>Remember : (will, or shall) + verb </li></ul><ul><li>Ex. The frog will hop off the log. </li></ul><ul><li>I shall fly in an airplane. </li></ul>
