It talks about the trends over 2009, how communications have changed for 2010 and does a little crystal ball gazing to try and predict what the future holds!

  • I have been asked to put together a presentation about the future of social media…. I have to admit that I worked on this last night, so you could say that I worked on this a little last minute. But the world of social media is moving so fast that litterally tomorrow IS the future. In the last week alone we have seen Facebook change its privacy set up, Murdoch settle an online news deal with Bing, Tweetdeck up grade to include Linkedin and Twitter lists and Twitter was offered $1B (and turned it down)
  • FORCE TO BE RECONed WITH Radio took 38 years to reach an audience of 50M!! Facebook reaches 350 million people Linked in is up to 5M people in the UK. 50m + worldwide.
  • 1382% growth of Twitter users Jan to Feb 2009
  • Certainly within the social media sphere there has been a shift from mass “broadcast” distribution to personalised taliored and fragmented audience. People who are in charge of marketing and in charge of talking, the people who are in charge of listening are customers services and sales – THESE DEPARTMENTS DO NOT SPEAK TO EACH OTHER.
  • 80% of people use Twitter on their phones.
  • Crystall Ball gazing!
  • Virtual worlds – Second life
  • (Facebook connect in xbox 360s etc) 32% of Amazon sales are from Kindles
